The building shown was once the town jail.
The first Post Office I remember was in a
section of the Pgh Mercantile Company Store.
It was then moved across the street in the
corner of the store that was called the "Jew Store", from there it was located in the brick building as shown in the picture. When that building was sold, a new Post Office was built on the corner lot across from the Methodist Church, a very nice addition to the town.

Thank you Jean for the update. Do you by chance remember if the little white building just to right of the brick town jail was ever the barber shop? I seem to remember a barber pole attached somewhere on that building in the late 60's or early 70's.

Yes, the little white building beside the old post office was a barber shop owned by Jack Burless. It is now a Pizza Shop.

Thanks Carol for confirming my memory. I always liked the residents of Bobtown. I had a part time summer job in the early 70's delivering ice cream to folks there that always treated me like family at every stop. Anyone remember the nifty fireman's carnivals from back then?

I grew up in Bobtown and remember well the fireman's carnivals that were by the fire hall.

I also came across an article that talks about the old jail which was closed in 1949 because they apparently didn't need it any more.

Jack's Barber shop was quite a place, and Jack was quite a character. As kids, we loved to hang out there. Jack always had the most recent comic books for us to read, and he had one of those old-time Coke machines in which the green bottles would slide through a maze before you could get one out. When you got a haircut (buzzcuts mandatory for summer!) you got a stick of Juicy Fruit. At Christmastime, you got a whole pack! Dads would get a shot of whiskey.

Oh, and Jack's sister, Marie Shimek was the Dunkard Township Tax Collector and used a portion of the barbershop building as her office.

Daily Horoscope for December 8

Pisces

You're capable of making some very constructive and important decisions today, particularly where your relations with certain people are concerned. If you're fed up with the way someone has been treating you, you might now decide that the worm is about to turn and you're going to be much firmer about what you're prepared to put up with and what you won't tolerate.
