Yes Kathi I remember you, in fact I am sitting with your sister as I am writing this. We are still best friends. I loved your grandmother alot and enjoyed spending time with her but I especialy loved Pop! He was really special to me. I also have very special memories of our summers at MLH during the 70's and am saddened by what has happened to it. Lisa and I went for a visit about 3 years ago before it was torched and it was really sad. We walked all around the place and even had some of the old large size post cards blow out of the old dining hall and into the road as we walked by.

hi, i just thought i would google the mountain lake house or resort. i too was surprise of its demise but that is life.
i had worked at mountain lake house and resort, from early 1983 until late summer 1986.
i worked in the office etc.
my best memories are the guests and the many families i had the opportunity to meet and get to know.
a great guy i remember so well, gino galante. he had a marvelous voice, n. plainfield nj. he could sing the song from Cats, like no one else.
hope all is well with many families that vacation at the mt. lake house or resort.
best wishes,
deb

i want to know if you are the sal from staten island that watched the Olympics in the main lobby?
I remember a Sal that encouraged me to go to Point Pleasant Beach on my only day off.
Thanks,

I heard that the old Mountain Lake House has been knocked down and is being turned into a natural preserve. Anybody know if this is true?
Hi John, just happened upon this site. Our group vacationed there for 20 years. We all now go to Chestnut Grove in Swiftwater. We went to Mountain Lake starting in 1984. We now live up here and it was
burned down during a controlled burn from the fire dept. It now sits void of any buildings except Pool side. It is really a very sad sight. There will be no preserve, but the land is still for sale. Hope this info helps you. Terri Y

I went there from 90 till closing this was the greatest place of all time. It was basically trashed when i went but it was still the best time i ever had. I go to Chestnut Grove, its nice but it doesnt have the same flare as MLH. There was always something going on. I remember crying eveytime our week was up

Dear Pete...My husband an I are returning to Stroudsburg in October for a wedding. I worked at the Village Inn and then at the Lake House from 1963 to 1966. In fact, I met my husband at the Lake House when he came down from Vacation Valley for a softball game. He worked at VV as a waiter and I worked as a waitress. What great summers we had there and what great memories. I worked for Miss Vid and her sister (can't remember her name)...to whom in the family are you related? I was there the summer the tanker exploded and killed firemen from Marshall's Creek...and set loose animals from the reptile farm... Again...Great memories ....

Hello Judy. Nice to contact you and talk with someone who remembers the earlier days at the hotel.

I am Miriam Huffman’s son. My mother did not work at the hotel. We lived in New Jersey and had a place in Marshalls Creek where we spent every summer.

Yes, Vid was in charge of the dining room at the Village Inn. And Vid’s sister was Dorothy. She was in charge of the kitchen and dining room at Mt. Lake. Vid and Dorothy were my aunts (my mother’s sisters).

And of course I do remember the dynamite explosion (15 tons of it!). What a tragedy. The Marshalls Creek Fire Company has a web page on the explosion here: http://www.marshallscreekfireco.org/History .

Indeed, those days at Mt. Lake were wonderful. Never to be seen again, unfortunately. Even the (now barren) land the hotel was situated on continues to sit idle. It remains for sale, with still no buyer after all the years it has been on the market.

I'm sure it will sell someday but I think there will have to be a major adjustment in price for it to happen. The last I heard they were asking 2.5 million for 85 acres, which to me sounds like a very unrealistic asking price.

The road construction ("Marshalls Creek Bypass") has come to a standstill. Basically what happened was that the governing bodies running the project ran out of money. And it's not hard to figure out why. They made plans for what they wanted and just went ahead with the project without having any idea where the funds would come from.(!)

The current status is that all construction has stopped while some re-thinking takes place. They already have changed some of their plans by scaling back on their original expectations of what they would like. Supposedly things will start up again in the future but no one knows when.

By the way, the whole purpose of this project is to provide a means of guiding major traffic flow around the town of Marshalls Creek. Traffic in the town becomes very congested during peak times, especially on weekends in the summer.

Pete I remember the week used to go to Mountain Lake you couldnt go any where on the weekend, it was such a hassel thats why my father would want to get there so early so you could get in without a problem. there was always a long line outside the resort. was there anyway for the resort and the roads to coexist?

What a suprise to find this forum. It's nice to hear so many thoughts about MLH. My family bought the resort in 1983 and I ran it from then until 2000. Over the years we invested much into the resort most of which expenditures to the physical plant, which had been sorely neglected over the years, just to keep things up and running. But unfortunately things were changing in the Poconos and the era of such resorts as MLH were coming to an end.

When we sold the resort to the present owners I was happy to hear that they planned on running it as a resort for kids of parents in the military. To be honest the land was not worth much else after the by-pass to nowhere and the gas line cut the land in two taking much of the good land with it. I was shocked when I heard it was razed. I spent almost 20 years working there and put my heart and soul into the place but I'm glad it still lives on in so many memories.

Hiya Deb, I thought that might be you. Good to hear from you and that you are doing something you love. Yes the Summit is closed and has been for about 7 years now. Hopefully on to bigger and better things with the property. Everyone is well on our end and hope the same is for you. Nice to hear from you. Joe

This is so sad to see. Today's resorts are not the same. Everyone is doing their own thing and not interacting like the planned activities at Mountain Lake House. This is a by gone era that left us that were fortunate enough to be a part of with some smile and great memories.

Hi Deb, Wow its so great to know that you are doing so well. I can't believe it was the 80's when you were at MLR. I'm a grandpa 4 times. Mike has 3 and Joe just had a baby. We are trying to build an indoor water park at the Summit. Just like MLR the times caught up with the Summit and that type of vacation. The Ceasars resorts are still left but you can buy all four for what it would have cost to buy one 20 years ago. My daughter Michelle is a teacher too. E-mail me at tony7145@hotmail.com if you want to catch up some more.

My sister and I went to MLH for many years in the mid to late 8o's. We always had an amazing time. We remember performing in the talent shows. We would love to get in touch with anyone who went @ the same time, i.e., Vicky, Nicky, Sammantha, Tara, Matt and Jerri.

Daily Horoscope for December 3

Scorpio

This is not the easiest day for concentrating on what needs to be done, whether tackling those Christmas cards and letters, writing out a list of jobs, or getting on with other urgent work. Mental activity seems to be blocked, as Mars is slowing and Mercury is under cosmic pressure. Take some time out for meditation, or reflection, and let your subconscious do the work.
