I am from Cottonwood, and know all the families. This is a tragedy, and to make it political seems wrong. There is enough suffering and tears here now without adding to it with hate and talk of shooting and killing people.

Sure, I am angry. I drive both those roads all the time. There are railroad tracks a few car lengths before the stop sign. If you go across the railroad tracks very fast, you would hit your brakes to slow down, as it would make you pay attention. Hwy 24 ends there in a T with Hwy 23, and you have to stop or you would go across Hwy 23 and be in a field. You would have to slow down for the railroad tracks. It was reported that she broke up with her boyfriend that day. We can guess she was upset and driving too fast. You can't hit the side of a school bus, push it across the highway and have it roll onto the side unless you are already driving way too fast. So are you saying that it is OK to drive illegally, drive over the speed limit, not be able to read the signs, not recognize that a red sign at the end of a road means you should stop, are you saying it is OK that anyone could plow their car into the side of a great big yellow school bus at 3:30 in the afternoon, when there are yellow school buses everywhere? Maybe she didn't set out to cause 4 children to die that day, but it seems like she did everything she could have done to have a pretty good chance of it happening.

If you don't have a license and you don't know English enough to read road signs, you drive too fast, you go over railroad tracks and don't slow down, then you lie and say the school bus hit you, and you are not who you say you are, or where you say you are from, then you are at fault. Period.

4 families, the school, and the communities are changed forever. If it makes anyone drive more carefully, if it makes people get off their cell phones, stop at the stop signs, then maybe this won't happen to another school bus. Maybe if everyone drove like they want to prevent hitting and killing someone else's children or loved ones it would be a better world.

Well, the Minnesota I grew up in is totally gone. What a huge shame.

If I were the parents of the two boys killed, as soon as they were buried, I'd be at the capitol, on TV and IN EVERYONE'S FACE on this immigration issue. I'll bet national networks would have them on easily too. You can bet Bill O'Reilly (#1 in ratings) would have them on in a heartbeat.

Looking at the damage to the vehicles and based on info so far, it seems the illegal hit the railroad tracks and went airborne, that is how she was able to knock the bus over by hitting it higher up instead of at ground level.

Now all the illegal apologists will say Americans crash into school busses also. Yes, but they don't drive 55 mph and launch off a railroad track into the side of school busses!! I have never heard of an American doing anything like that, have you?

By the way, seat belts and higher seat backs would not have saved those kids, she slammed her van directly into them.

The $90,000 will be split equally between vocational training for American citizens, K-12 education and Medicare. But alas this will never happen because we have no willingness to get it done. If we need workers we could go to the border each day to get the workers and there SS wages would be deducted and paid in our system for Americans.

Do you mean fascists, or racists? I'm guessing fascists, since that's what you call everyone who doesn't agree with you. I've seen it on at least 4 posts just in the last day or two.

The thing that brings illegals to the US is jobs. If there are jobs, they will come, no matter how high you build the fence.
The only thing that's really needed is a simple pre-employment check where a prospective employee's SS# is checked against the records. If the new-hire's name, birthdate, match the SS record, then fine. Otherwise, no hire.
It's easy to fake an SS card, but impossible to create a fake number that won't be immediately detected by a central database. Any employer who has an illegal on his payroll should be liable for serious penalties.
Why hasn't this been done? My guess is that the Chamber of Commerce types are very fond with a limitless source of cheap labor who can be deported anytime they begin to get uppity. After all, what was the name of that President who last gave amnesty to illegals? Reagan, wasn't it? And wasn't it George Bush who's trying to give them amnesty now?
To the extent that Democrats are working people, and Republicans are employers, then it's logical that it's the Republicans who like amnesty for illegals, and weak controls

I'd love to learn more about this. Around MN Caucus time and shortly before, it seemed as if it was a Democrat/Republican issue (Dems don't care, Republicans care). As a Democrat, I'm trying to research the issues. For me, if someone does something illegal, they should be punished for it, with whatever tools that are on the lawbooks. Illegals included.

Nice to see that the personal attacks continue unabated. I'd tend to argue that public employees are as accountable, or more so, than many others - our salaries are often public record, we regularly have to report to the legislature on the work we do (at least I do), and we get audited by state and federal regulators. And as I pointed out to you the other day, it's not state employees who decide how public money is spent - it's the legislators. They tell us how much money to spend on programs, and usually tell us exactly how to implement them. Then we do it. I don't get to tell the governor whether or not I agree with a policy that the legislature has enacted - I just have to do it. And believe me, especially with this administration, I often don't agree.

But you'd rather continue to attack me personally, rather than talking about issues. That's been a trend. Again, I haven't ever attacked your job or your life, and I have never once called you a name. But you seem to feel the need to obsess about what I do for a living and repeatedly issue personal slams.
