I drive by Alpine Village each weekday and I noticed all fo the porta-potties lined up still. If this is what the new facility offers, then no thanks. I'll go to Old Wolrd or Big Bear to celebrate this year.

I also don't like aht I read about this local guy being pushed out. Bad karma.

I will not be going, too bad, lots of hot chicks easy to pick up, a great night if you can make it out of the parking lot.

Cheers!

Spaten Optimator is good and tasty beer, just had one. Why not serve both? There both good. It sounds like he is being squeezed out.

Gee, I'd love to help out with the kegs he's got brewed for Oktoberfest, though.

I wasn't going to go before, but now I'm really not going to go. That brewery makes some great beer.

I used to go just to have a pint of the Alpine lager. Best oktoberfest beer in my opinion. It also helps that my birthday falls this month. I always had by birthday parties at the fest. Too bad!

Anywayz I just moved to boston and i live 2 blocks from the sam adams brewery. They have a decent oktoberfest and you can sample 21oz for free just by dropping in.:-)

What the hell is wrong with the management of Alpine? They apparently have decided to run the whole thing into a ramshackle mess.

It used to be a nice place to go, but the idiots running the place seem to be intent on destroying the businesses there.

I would guess that they realize the land is more valuable then the village, so damn the village and let the developers get their hands on it.

Sad!

I stop in the place often and it is run down! They did a fair job of re-paving on a small portion of the parking lot, but the remainder is a rolling prairie! They have a third-world swap meet there and it seems more like TJ than an "Alpine Village". The grocery store is ancient and the staff not friendly. We noticed the beer changed. It is a strange place. Rumors say the ownership is from Samoa. It would be nice to see the brewer move to the real Torrance. They have lots of vacancies.

Spaten probably forked over a shoebox full of money and/or big marketing support. The big guy eats the little guy, also known as the downside of capitalism.

Money apparently trumps loyalty at Alpine Village. Buying local or American seems to be out the window too. But I repeat myself.

Time to say Auf Wiedersehen to Alpine Village.

That place sucks more and more each year! Too sad, but with some old coot running the place what do you expect? They should just hace bud light, thats what the locals want to drink anyway. The end is near!

Has the restaurant improved their "C" rating from the LA County health department? It had a "C" rating for months last winter... I gulped (literally) as on two occasions a group of us dined there... and not since.

How can this make economic sense?

I have known about the controversies... I have been a customer of Angel City Beer for years. The owner is personable, accommodating, and the beer is fantastic.

HOW COULD a Spaten distributor make economic sense?
Ok, maybe a larger company that can lowball a decision - but WHY SQUEEZE OUT A LOCAL BUSINESS? One that has been an institution in Torrance and at Alpine VIllage?

This is such a disappointment, I may boycott Alpine VIllage spread the word to friends, I've attended this Oktoberfest for about a decade... I always looked forward to Angle City Lager...

I LOVE Spaten... but this in unfathomable and how dare the owners disrupt the business and livelihood of a person with a passion for brewing!!!!

Third world swap meet?
Samoa
TJ?
Real Torrance...

Watcher... I disagree with your insinuations... Freedom of Choice, don't go.
Isn't it about assimilating and promoting free-market enterprise?
Isn't that exactly what they are doing?

Well I was thinking of going to Alpine Village this year. Saw the tent being built and thought the place had upgraded. Well I guess it's off to the Phoenix Club again this year.

The article did a great job of telling the Brewer's point of view...though I wonder why they would want to remove a tenant in these tough times. Maybe there's more to the story than either Angel City or Alpine management is saying...ya think?

As far as beer goes, if it's good enough for Munich it's good enough for me. Spaten is a great beer, respected the world over. Can't say the same for Angel City though the beer is tasty enough.

I hope the two sides can work out their differences; Alpine's Oktoberfest is always a great time and I love to see small brewers thrive.
