And can anyone explain the FedEx tandam tractor trailer truck which was escorted by a PA State Police car, with red lights flashing, going north down the center turn lane of US Route 11 in the Sunset area, passing the standstill traffic?

If the truck involved in the accident was loaded, the truck you saw was sent for a transload of the contents.

Don't worry all will back to normal Thursday. Construction on the Scotland exit bridge and construction downtown Chambersburg. One or two guys working and the other 20 or so watching. On top of the construction we have the old farts puttin around. I can fix this problem.First make all 20 construction workers WORK so it doesn't take for ever to get the crap done. Second make all the old farts retake their drivers test at age 65. That should cut the traffic in half since 90% of them will never pass.

Almost Killed...You just contradicted the point you were trying to make. If 12% of traffic accidents are caused by 18 wheelers, then you just proved that they are the good drivers!!! The other 88% are the IDIOTS in cars!! Great point!!

well Iam a trucker and know for a fact the crash involves a FED/EX truck and I will tell you they are always driving like idiots dont slow down for wet roads or anything. So in this case I will have to say it was the truck drivers fault. If you remember a few months ago there was a crash in the same area as this one it also involved a FED/EXtruck.
I agree with this to a point. I have noticed a lot of Fed/Ex trucks involved in serious crashes recently. They also seem to be the trucks, more times than not, that are tailgaiting me. Maybe Fed/Ex needs to teach their drivers how to drive better?

I have nothing against truck drivers. My father is a truck driver. What pisses me off is when these truckdrivers see an emergency vehicle get on the interstate and instead of pulling over they try to pass it. They are worried about getting stuck in a traffic jam. Why cant they just pullover and let the firefighters,or emts do thier jobs.

SWhy don't you contact the landfills that these "truckes" haul into - take a tour - maybe get a life and broaden your horizons....

The gypsy trash hauler trucks speed and they appear to be driven by Kamikazes whose main aim in life is to make as many trips in a day as possible. PA tax on the trash haulers should be tripled. These trucks are hazards on the Interstate.

I had to travel home from work from Chambersburg to Gettysburg, it took me 2 hours. It would have taken longer, if I had not cut up through Fayetteville and back out to 30, just to stuck up in it again. I went from Sheetz on 30 to Lowes on 30 in an hour. IT was outrageous, there was no one to tell these people where to go, no one directing traffic. If I was not from around here I would have not know to take 997 back to 81, let alone even know how to get to 997. I just couldn't believe it!

Fire police do work full time jobs . If your going to complain about the fire police not being where you want them go to your local fire department and join for the fire police side. You will need to go to a weekend class ,go get sworn in or visa verse but then you can do what you want ot complain about.

As far as the Fed Ex truck by Sunset Pike they was takin it to the interstate to get the packages from the one who wrecked.
I did hear there is 1 lane open on 81 and it will be several more hours until both lanes will be back open. I also heard someone got ejected and another entrapped. Not sure how true it is because we all know how gossip travels through our small county..

It sounds to me like u r a a.. hole. My father and my 2 brothers r truckers and if it wasnt for them bringing stuff to stores u wouldnt have alot of stuff. And not all truckers r the same and there r alot of people that drive other things that drive alot worse then truckers.
I don't care what your daddy does. If truckers weren't on the road, accidents like this wouldn't happen. This country needs to be like the rest of the world and move freight by rail. It's safer and more efficient all around.

Pretty sad when Hagerstown has more of a story than the CHAMBERSBURG PAPER! And it happened in cburg!
Breaking News
Four miles of I-81 remain closed
April 15, 2009
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. Four miles of the northbound lanes of Interstate 81 in Franklin County remained closed Wednesday afternoon because of an accident that happened at 11:30 a.m.
The interstate was closed from exit 16 (Lincoln Way) to exit 20 (Pa. 997/Black Gap Road), causing a miles-long traffic backup, Pennsylvania State Police said in a news release.
Wayne Lloyd Webb Jr., 46, of Bowie, Texas, was driving a FedEx tractor-trailer southbound when he traveled off the roadway, went across the median and struck a concrete barrier on the west side of the northbound lanes, police said. The vehicle came to rest in the northbound lane facing west and blocking both of the northbound lanes, according to the release.
The accident occurred near the 18-mile marker in Greene Township.
Webb was ejected from the vehicle and was taken to County Hospital in Hagerstown, police said. A passenger in the vehicle, Neil Alan Maxwell, 41, of Weatherford, Texas, also was taken to County Hospital. Both were treated for minor injuries, police said.
Northbound traffic was being routed off I-81 at exit 16 onto U.S. 11, Pennsylvania State Police said.
Exit 17 northbound was also closed, police said.
The accident occurred in a construction zone, police said.
Police advised motorists to exercise patience and avoid the area if possible.
At 2:15 p.m., traffic was backed up to the 8-mile marker northbound.
