I didn't say government. We need to take care of our own before we send millions to others. Look at how much money goes overseas to build schools personal or government then our teachers get the laid off and more is put on them.

"sorry to say" is correct in what was posted. Those who are attending out of district are doing so for various reasons. Mostly because you were already attending prior to Mcdowell finaly imposing the district rules due to overcrowding at some schools. As for EField, my own children went there in the past, during the reign of Dr Ghorst and Mike Ayers. I would NOT however, put my children in that school now. Look at the test date that the state just releashed. There was an article about it in the McDowell News just last week or so. If I had my choice and was in their district, I would send my child to Marion Elem. based on how well the schools are performing.

Marion Elem. has good scores because the teachers have high expectations of their students. Everyone works hard!

Marion Elem. is a great school. Wonderful teachers, and wonderful people who attend there. You couldnt ask for a better staff to help your children flourish. Also, they have been cracking down lately on the school district problem because overflowing in schools are an issue. But other than that, you probably wont have 1 problem with getting your child into a good elementary school.

Not sure where your information came from but Marion Elementary's 5th grade science EOG scores are always the highest in the county. In 2011, EVERY 5th grade student passed the Math EOG. They must be doing something right!

Don't just look at last years test scores but look at past years scores, it will show that Marion Elementary is the best. The 5th grade science teacher has had the highest test scores in the county for the past few years now and that is just one of the many outstanding teachers they have.
The fact is

The fact is Marion Elementary is the only school of "Reward" in McDowell County. That is a state honor that means it is in the top 10% of all schools in North Carolina, including private and charter schools. Buncombe County had zero schools receive that honor. Burke county only had 2 or 3. Marion Elementary students learn!
