It was that computer system which may prove to be the resulting affect which turned the tide in the Water Department.

Paper is its own failsafe. A computer has far too many means of recording and comparing for the paper-chase game.

You hit the nail on the head with your description of paying by cash each month. Frankly, perhaps you should consider contacting the John Eibeck, the Chief of the Marion PD - and explain your circumstance - discrepancies such as the one you have outlined might be the exact example the investigator(s) could use in determining the outcome of the investigation...

Quote " To "want to know" I see you have been talking to Commissioner Owens. The EPA loan was for $750,000 for the Rend Lake hookup. It is a low interest loan with a 25% forgiveness at the end. Regardless of what Mr. Owens tells you at the coffee shop there is no wrong doings in the water or sewer dept. Those funds are audited on an annual basis and are in sound financial order. I have had many meetings with our city treasurer in addressing his concerns. He believes business is being handled in an appropriate manner and has no concerns with the water office. "

Hey commish---This is from your 2011 post on this thread>>>>what do you say NOW????

Yeah, Marion needs to start listening to these people that are trying to get the truth out there.
People tried to tell the mayor and council something was wrong at the water dept. back in 2010 but they were told to shut up and sit down (just like the woman last week at the council meeting) so they let it continue until 2012. A lot of our money could have been saved instead of stolen during this two year period. The council knows they are responsible and to blame, that is why they get so mad when anyone dares to ask them a question about it.

Bob Owens was looking in the right direction, and was getting way too close...which is why they gave him holy hell. I remember Butler humiliating him at a council meeting , telling him he could "sit there like a bump on a log " as far as he (Butler) was concerned. The vid record on the city website has probably been removed.

Great city government, folks. You vote them in, and you get what you deserve.

looks as if we have 2 possibilities here: incompetence or malfeasance.( Maybe there are other explanations that I haven't considered, but these are glaringly obvious.

Trotsky isn't a bad hitter himself.

He hits more homers than Mark McGuire but I saw him popup to the infield once.

Thanks mt, my compliments to you,sir/madam.

I knew something was up when Butler relieved Owens of his duties as councilman. I wondered at the time whether that was even legal, as Owens was elected BY THE PEOPLE. Didn't seem to matter though.I suppose because Marion has a "strong Mayor/weak council" type government, and Butler "appoints" the commissioners unilaterally, he can "un-appoint" , But this little scenario was personal and vindictive and was a disgrace to city government .

If I recall, he wasn't relieved by Butler. He lost the election.

So the great and wonderful Owens was "looking in the right direction" but obviously didn't (truly) see or find anything himself........or did he? Since he wasn't part of the solution, he must have been part of the problem.

Well, really, Butler did relieve Owens of all his council DUTIES,while the DURATION of the term was established by statute and out of Butler's sphere of influence, or you can bet he would have bounced Bob right out of the commissioner's office. He and his cronies had to wait until the following election to completely destroy him as a candidate.IL is hardball politics....

What I find hysterical is a few years back the water department switched to a "new" computer system. I always paid my water bill on time in cash in the office. I would keep each receipt until the next month when I paid my bill then I would throw the previous receipt away. After all, if I were behind or there was a problem it would show on my current bill. A year later I receive a bill from the Marion Water Dept for approximately $600 telling me I had not paid my water bill for several months. I went up and spoke with Mrs. Heyde who informed me IF I could not produce my receipt I would have to pay the bill. After several discussions with her about never being behind and a past due amount never showing on my bill she showed no concern. In the end she told me to pay the $600 or they would be out to disconnect my water.

For years I have heard nothing but complaints from other customers. At one point I have been in the office paying my bill and a man was in there paying in pennies just because it irritated the rude women and they had to count all the pennies!! I will say whenever I have had a water leak or water pressure issue any of the workmen that have been sent out have been courteous and tried to get the problem fixed as quick as possible.
Did you pay the $600?

Well, there's "truth" and some people's version of the truth. At times, they hardly resemble one another.

Daily Horoscope for May 25

Pisces

You're raring to go today, especially on domestic projects. You'll achieve a tremendous amount if you're allowed to proceed at your own pace and in your own time, but you'll soon get ratty if you suspect someone is breathing down your neck or trying to tell you what to do. You'll also feel irritated with people you know really well, so be prepared for a few fireworks.
