Nice, I wish there were more people like that in the world. I'm sure there are things we as adults could do the help the youth of america. Not everyone has money and resources, but we all have a mind and heart. Volunteer as a mentor or tutor for children who are stuggling with school, family etc. If we all spent a little time that would amount to alot of love and care spread around.

Namaste, Mr. Junker! I wish your organization loads of success in its noble mission.

Another really good non-profit that works to educate poor children in Africa is ChildFund Interntional (formerly Christian Children's Fund). My husband and I sponsor children in India and Africa, and cannot express adequately how the experienced has touched us. We know our small contributions are changing the lives of the children we sponsor and their families in big ways.

Hello, to hard, I hope you're having a wonderful summer!

ChildFund is also involved in assisting the Native American children who live in poverty on reservations in South Dakota, I believe, though I have not signed on to sponsor an American child yet. Poverty in America is real and I thank you for bringing it up. There are local opportunities to work with homeless children right here in the Twin Cities. The little ones I'm sponsoring abroad are in the very direst of circumstances, suffering beyond what an American child will ever experience, though no child anywhere should ever have to go to bed hungry or forego an education to work for food. Education is a birthright and childhood is so fleeting. Anytime and anywhere that a person from any nation can lift a child out of poverty and give him/her the skills that will last a lifetime, I think it's our responsibility to do so.

I agree with you. Some people think that because they don't have money they can do nothing and that is wrong. Big Brothers and Big Sisters is mostly just an investment of you time and love. Everyone should be able to spare some of that. I hope you are having a wonderful summer, and hopefully the next off-topix gathering I will meet you, as I know you will be one of the main players...

I think this is such a wonderful thing. However, I am always upset when things like this get attention and there are so many kids right here in Minnesota. Families are struggling just to get food on the table. Schools are closing down. Foreclosures increase, and with that, the amount of families who are homeless. Come on people! Why aren't we helpingout our neighbors as well?

Daily Horoscope for December 10

Leo

Be choosy about who you spend time with today. If you're with someone who's habitually miserable or sorry for themselves, you'll soon be dragged down to their level and will struggle to recover again. However, you may feel such sympathy for their plight that you don't see you have any choice but to be with them. If so, do your best to remain positive.
