The county collects enough taxes ... this is just one more way to rip off more money from us.

This is basically a long standing dispute between Mayor Beaudet and officials at Washington County. Neither one would budge or resolve the situation amicably, so Veolia is basically caught in the middle to maintain their hauling license. Taxes on garbage service are out of control. A resident in Washington County is obligated to pay a 37.5% county tax and 9.75% state tax. The county tax is used to fund a privately held processing facility in Newport.

That is why private businesses shouldn't be collecting taxes for our runaway bloated governments, and that includes income taxes. These "taxes" should all be directly collected from the citizen taxpayers by the governments entity. I think everone would be up in arms if they had to write personal checks to the government in amounts equalling 40% of their gross pay, at a minimum.
