"The CCC makes its decisions based on the work and recommendations of their staff who are experts not swayed by the politics of the voting commissioners." I think Voter must be the same person that made the statement about the oceans in Arcata, Meserve.

If you want to kill a project in our world you work with the staff. And a staff that is only there to ensure some fuzzy "ecological" study is going to kill off more projects than not. Otherwise they look like they are not important.

It is like the pulp mill, could it still be open and also environmentally better? Yes. But when these enviro-crats and lawyers get involved they put in a single word that kills the profitability of these sorts of business. That word is "possible", sometimes "available" is is used. As in "the best possible" device to scrub the air, and as opposed to "the best reasonable" device to scrub the air. The difference in air quality may be one or two percentage points, but the cost of the device and it's operation can be 5 or 6 times more for the best possible.

I know I am speaking to folks that can't grasp that reality, but someone has to try.

Multiple 1 or 2 percentage points by 20 polluters and you are talking about serious air pollution. How much is your right to breath clean air worth?

No, you are missing the point. The emissions all come down. And in creates a new industry to clean the emissions, that leads to ever cleaner emissions. That is how it works unless you have non-rational actors in the system.

And to your point specifically, all industry would be happy to use the "same gear". And would be happy to work on ever cleaner emissions gear. But when a Judge drops the "possible" or "available" word, it is time to move the jobs overseas. And the people that caused it will blame someone else. If you can't find a job look to your local Democratic klavern. And ask them why.

And until wages are 3rd world level greedy businesses will continue to outsource jobs. Rather than allowing increased pollution here we should place tariffs on imports from countries which don't prevent pollution. It's like you right wingers have only recently discovered the importance of jobs and now you use it as an excuse for everything. Don't raise taxes on the rich because it will cost jobs. Don't regulate industry because it will cost jobs. We have the worst economy (for most people) and job market since the Great Depression at a time of the lowest tax rates on the rich since WWII and very lax regulation in most of the country. What happened to wages and jobs over the last 10 years? Is the CCC to blame for high unemployment and budget deficits in states other than California? The rich are sucking up all the wealth, we don't have to give them our health and the health of our world in the bargain.

This is what it means to compete with countries that don't regulate pollution to import jobs:

http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2007/...

Is this what you want?

Judicial rulings obviously never make everyone happy, but both sides of the environmental issue have their victories and defeats in the courtroom which is, of course in this country, where legal disputes are settled. Would you have it any other way?

Really, you want to go into a diatribe? The anti pollution devices would be made here, and probably by union workers. I am going to take this as another victory. You can't focus on the statements in fact, you have to go on a global, "you are bad, because I disagree" strategy

HEY VOTER time out go smoke another joint, you've missed the point. Go read the reports, then let's talk about reasonable ccc influence. Like environmental concerns on our coastal areas.

Domino, you'll have to forgive VOTER cuz he is one of those brainwashed libtards that think that all the "rich" should have to share with the people not willing to risk anything so they don't have as much. He was probably indoctrinated[eg.brainwashed] at good ol HSU and cannot see any compromise to any situation no matter what the slightest trade off could be. I do agree with him on the tariff idea but it should be put on all imports regardless like they do on our exports especially foreign autos.

And the 4 stooges couldn't respond to a single point I raised other than to imply that pollution is good because it creates profit for industry while it is being created and to clean it up. Given the deaths from air pollution and who the most vulnerable are, it's also a good population reduction method. What's there for a rich person to hate?

Settle down!
Christ almighty, simply count the dead trees, account for erosion and get off your personal diatribes.
We have essentially reversed a forest-process in Manila in exchange for a wasting process.
We have effected our BFE (base flood elevation) and it had NOTHING to do with horses.
It is the direct result of misbehavior, parties and removal of vegetation. No management, no oversight, not one person wants their name on this sh t.
Start planting, stop pulling.

Oh I see, it is a gossip page.
I thought it might be about the coastline or those that will determine how our coastline is dealt with.
It is not the Coastal Commission to speak for Free Enterprise, instead speaking for Science so that all of our Free Enterprise may understand reasonable, transparent and fair parameters that ALL Free Enterprise falls within equally. To ignore a wetland (the balloon tract)is to ignore Science, to attack personally those that recognize this is distraction from very important issues.

The CCC is all political. They wouldn't give you permission to put up a mail box on a designated wet land, but they allow billboards on wet lands up and down highway 101 especially between Arcata and Eureka. The CCC doesn't respond to public inquiries.

Daily Horoscope for May 22

Gemini

Beware wishful thinking because it will cloud your thoughts and lead to confusion. However, that's much easier said than done, because today you're showing distinct tendencies towards living in a rosy world of your own and ignoring any hard facts that are under your nose. Take care that you don't allow someone to dupe you simply because you aren't paying attention to what they're saying or doing.
