Those strings hooked to Lindas lips must have slipped out of Larrys fingers at vote time. Good for her.

The traffic problem is due to the fact that a hwy bypass never occured. I have to take a "rat trail" through town to avoid the hwy 101 traffic. So, if that one councilperson feels there will be increased traffic, try finding a place to park along 4th or 5th street with big rigs and logging trucks and motorhomes wizzing by as you attempt to parrallel park. Did this same question come up when Costco was built or Target? Our economy is in the dumpster and she would be worried about increased traffic. Just think of that as the sound of money. The traffic is going to be spending lots of it. Sound to me like she is in kahoots with Pierson's. Don't we want more people to come to Eureka to shop instead of Crescent City, Fortuna or Arcata? Sound to me like she has been bought and paid for - same thing with Glass who's name rimes with a particular part of ones body.

Mr. Jager's comments were refreshing to hear..."extortionists...p robably right".
This whole process reflects far more than simply,'The Marina Center'.
The so called 'silent majority' of this county is finally finding a voice. Pot City, USA, economically stagnet Eureka, defeated timber enterprises and struggling fishing industries...let's make those labels disappear. Thank You to the Eureka City Council. Thank You Ms. Atkins for your vote. The traffic pattern of the proposed Marina Center will spread the congestion of Broadway out over new routes.
The Center should balance any increased traffic by giving the area a larger matrix. Please don't blame the current traffic bog on the proposed Marina Center. That is totally unfair.

Yager and Leonard tell it like it is. Baykeeper, NEC, EPIC, and company have no expertise. Just arrogance and lawyers. Nichols calling the old railyard a "sensitive wetland" is laughable.

NEC? didn't they default on mortgage?

We now shop in Medford and Grants Pass.

California has made it too hard to do business-

We will continue to shop in Oregon for sales tax savings alone.

Are you listening Arcata and Eureka? Go ahead-raise sales tax again-see what happens!

How did that sales tax increase work for you?

We have no logging, no fishing, no mill work..basically no jobs. Drug use in Eureka is sky "high". We need to clean it up.(hear that DA) We need jobs to support families and the police dept.
I drive to Eureka and it's "make sure the doors are locked". I don't go to the mall or other shopping areas at night. I know I'm not alone in this.
Approve clean up,jobs and get tougher on drugs or watch it all go away.
P.S. Eureka should be thankful Arkley's live in their community.

The first speaker, from Arcata, the war on drugs guy, represented the opposition’s position on the Marina Center project succinctly. The NEC- Baykeeper rep also gave fact filled reasons to not approve the project. We are so lucky to have these folks looking out for Eureka’s best interest. I’m sure the Coastal Commission staff is also working hard on a fabricated embellished staff report as we speak. You know, water filled tire tracks are spawning areas for leopard sharks on the Balloon Tract. Thanks also to Mark Lovelace for his tireless lobbying efforts at the State Lands Commission too.

Yes, no lumber, no fishing, no mill work = no jobs. Yet, you think these dead end, low wage jobs that will come with the balloon tract project will make a difference? Get real! We better figure out a better way - like maybe getting tour ships in here. Because if we don't, in 5 years there won't be anyone left except the drugies, homeless, & welfare moms. Let the city try to get a buck out of these groups. Or we can always pray for a tsunami!

I agree, the port, tour ship etc. all part of the picture. It would be nice if the blight of the balloon tract was presentable when they come in. Also the construction jobs would provide some livable wage jobs. I think we are on the same page...

Just like a 40 year old undrained skid road is habitat if frogs live there, thats the rules of the game that is played, let USFW or CDFG decide what is wetland, not Baykeeper. Both Baykeeper and the Coastal Commission are self funding, so cough it up so they can regulate you.

If a subdivision developer can destroy one wetland if they create another, why can't that happen in the Balloon track cesspool.

I like how Baykeeper hired Taj Mahal for their 5 year bash, guess they have some money to spend once they pay themselves and lawyers?

In the name of the bay huh, why don't you volunteer your time then.

Why do you think the Marina Center will only offer jobs with low pay scales? It is a mixed use development that will offer housing, office space, restaurants, decent landscaping and architecture planned to coordinates with current building styles in Eureka. The Arkley's seem to do things right...consider the Zoo buildings, the Performing Arts Center and the multitude of other developments they've funded all over the U.S. Yes, some of these jobs will be entry level jobs. However, those are important as they help young people work to stay in college, supplement family budgets and allow senior citizens to earn some extra cash.
Cruise ships? They've been here before...why didn’t they return? Now that is something the Baykeepers should be looking at...or maybe they are opposed to that also.

The Marina Center architecture couldn't be much uglier. This reflects the current building styles in Eureka?
For the love of god, will someone please teach our local developers the basics of urban renewal?
