this is how those groups are funded, suing people. to the Paykeepers, this is just business. not having the site cleaned up for a few more years is "collateral damage". where were they years ago when this was offered to the city? Why isn't their own site in Arcata cleaned up yet?

These groups want a REAL clean-up, and that's what they're fighting for. Shame on Jeff for a PR stunt that sidesteps the issues. Does he not understand the issues, or is he knowingly not being straight with us?

Mr. Jeff Leonard, I don't want to hurt your feelings, but I see no sign of leadership here.
Cheap publicity stunt. The only way your going
to be a leader is to get in front of a line of ants.

This is so funny, environmental groups suing to prevent a toxic cleanup. Proof that they are really just watermelons.

Jeff carrying the misinformed water for the Arkley hacks. If poor Randy was SO concerned about the environment they would have put forth a real clean-up plan that the public could actually comment on. I love that they are trying to play the environmentalist here, do they think we are that stupid....it take more than sweatshirts to win hearts and minds.
Jeff might as well hang-up his Supervisor aspirations....oh wait, Rob will fund his campaign and continue to write his press statements.

Can someone in this mess of logic tell me why the will of the people of Humboldt Co. CA with all of it's government regulations and billions of tax payers dollars is being ruled by three non-profit groups? The questions on this for me is ,where is the legal standard in regards to the scientific information given by the Robert F Kennedy Jr. led Baykeepers group being accurate?
And to think that this all started because RFK Jr. was arrested for heroin use and became the baykeepers lawyer!

Clean it up right. And Dan, more jobs would be created with a full cleanup.

Even more jobs would be created if Mr. Arkley would drop the Home Depot. Smaller scale, denser, non-big box development would support more jobs diversified among more employers and also diversify the tax base so that the failure of any one retailer/industry would have a smaller impact.

Want Eureka to thrive? Look at Arcata on how to create a welcoming environment for light industry. Theirs is the most diversified manufacturing base in the County, attracting bright innovative people. Couldn't the balloon track(t) be put to higher and better use than a Home Depot?

Leonard said publically that he would accept nothing less than a full cleanup. If this initial process isn't consistant with a full cleanup, then he is in trouble.

Leonard could care less about a full cleanup. This is his move to become the primary candidate to go up against Bonnie Neely. Next step is to have Bass Jackson step down.

It isn't, and he is. Of course he'll have piles of Arkley money to get him out of it.

If only the EIR were as transparent as Mr. Leonard.

I can't for the life of me understand why these groups want the property left in its present state to pour polluted water into the bay and allow contaminated soil to continue to leach pollutants into the groundwater. Why not start the cleanup process, this is just the first step. The final cleanup will have a public review and public hearings. This will allow the healing of the land to start. At this rate this eyesore and public safety hazard will continue for years to come. Maybe that's what they want, a way to keep their name in the paper and continue to earn income off the taxpayers and the workingman's back.

AS I understand it this plan was reviewed by the appropriate agencies and will be monitored. It will allow cleanup of hotspots to be started and pollution leaving the site will be greatly reduced or stopped rather than waiting another year or two for the final plan to be approved. What is the benefit of allowing this condition to exist for another year or two?

Because in it's present condition the pollutants are somewhat "trapped" and are seeping into the surrounding environment at "slow" rate. The craptastic "clean up" proposed in the EIR will expose these pollutants to everything nature can throw at them and let them flood out due to inadequate mitigation measures. That's why. You don't wait for some imagined later phase to deal with these correctly, you have to do it from day one.

Why the political stunt Jeff? Your Supervisor campaign really isn't that important right now. Let's get the full cleanup that YOU asked for!

Daily Horoscope for December 24

Gemini

It's a busy day and you've got quite enough to do without having to cope with people clamoring for your attention and likely to go into a huff if they don't get it. Is this person feeling neglected because you're busily occupied elsewhere or are there other reasons for their demanding mood? Simply giving them a big hug could make all the difference to their behavior.
