Why? Because Joe Varsallone is a psycho, that's why. It's time for that crazy old man to retire and for someone that can offer some leadership to emerge. That's why.

People who way some things never change and it is always the same people running should put their money where there mouth is and take a run at the job. I agree with the previous post that said Pam Donovan is the best on that Commission. She fights for the people of Margate and has a lot of good ideas and fights to save the taxpayers...US money. If you think you can do better...why not take a stab at it.

And in my opinion, your just another rubber stamp..MY OPINION. Riding down Margate Blvd in a convertible once a year, and calling the garbage man for another bulk trash pick-up doesn't constitute a commission seat. Answer this question: What do you think the city should do with the property purchased from the Swap Shop?

And here's MY OPINION for "Same Junk", YOU are just another person who mouths off but doesn't want to get involved. For one thing, after Wilma hit us, Peerman went around with her chainsaw and cut down fallen trees for people who couldn't do it themselves. She didn't get any credit for that but she didn't ask for any. She fought for 3 years to get a couple of covers on playgrounds. That does constitute a commission seat. If she'd been a commissioner, it wouldn't have taken so long. Now that may not mean much to you, but I have three children and they can go play on a safe playground where there legs won't get burnt now. And my neighbor, a little old widow, is one of the people Peerman helped after the hurricane. So, yes, I will vote for Peerman to be a commissioner because I've seen her help people. None of the other commissioners, except Ms. Donovan, have ever set foot in my neighborhood.

Answer this question: What do you think the city should do with the property purchased from the Swap Shop? Same Junk i apologize if you took my comment as being flip or condesending what i was trying to say was that anyone can run for commissioner and there was still time to qualify. i have never ridden down margate blvd in a convertible.. i did once in my canoe and twice in my truck for the 4th of july parade and have done it for fun. i did not call the garbage man i collected(with help) 2100 signatures of residents like you who wanted more bulk pickup i presented it to the commission and continued to fight for it with research and facts until they came up with a compromise as for being a rubber stamp i'm not sure where you get your information about that so i really can't defend or agree with it. there are times i agree with the commission and there are times when i don't. since i am only a resident the option of being a rubber stamp is pretty moot.. if you think i am a rubber stamp because i don't call the commissioners names or attack them then yes i guess to you i would be, but i respect the seat of the commissioners and thus treat them with respect. as for the swap shop property because the city owns it i think we will get more developers interested in the downtown project..i would like to see the downtown developed with stores and restaurants and places that margate residents will go to and make it a place that people who drive along 441 see the activity and the charm and say hey lets stop here..i do not agree with the amount of residential units that have been proposed for the swap shop area as well as along margate blvd area.. they seemed to have gone from shops with living areas above them to larger condo, townhouse complexes.. my feeling for downtown is alot of people want to go back to that time when people knew each other and they gathered together..where they supported the businesses in their town because they are part of the community..a simpler life in a not so simpler world now can i ask you a couple questions? what constitutes a commission seat in your opinion? and what would you like to see the city do with the swap shop area? le

I don't know about "Junk" or anyone else posting here, but as a citizen who lives close to the project this is my opinion.
The Swap Shop property should be offered for sale to the Hilton or Sheraton companies..or the like.
With the "luxury" of having a HUGE addition to the casino about 2 miles up the road, one could argue that with all the additions, restaurants, shows, and other events they are planning..it's NOT TOO unrealistic to assume that perhaps some of the planned tourists/stayovers that cannot get rooms on their property, or those who wish to stay in a $150 a night room as opposed to $300 rooms could use an extra "up-scale" hotel to stay at. In addition, that hotel might probably provide a shuttle service to the casino area.
This hotel plan would HELP the local new merchants that are being invisioned on renting spaces in the new complexes. Restaurants, shops, services, etc.
To just assume that the local residents will be able to keep afloat ALL the merchants on the lower levels of that property is really unrealistic. Also, condo's /apartments may NOT be such a good idea for second floors on top of these storefronts. Section 8 housing has seemed to incorporate in areas of unrented housing. THIS WOULD BE THE WORST THING TO HAPPEN to the project.
Think about it.. Hilton or Sheraton or Marriott..those stayovers..will INDEED USE those shops and services. AND those rooms will be used due to the LARGE casino projects just minutes up the road.
THAT'S THE SMART MOVE

outsider i completely agree about hilton, sheraton,or marriott..unfortunately the people who did the market research pretty much nayed that idea saying we are not a destination spot..they don't take into consideration the price of the casino rooms vs the price of a regular hotel room as being a factor..they even nayed a movie theater saying there were some already close by..the latest picture plans showed a condo on the swap shop site which looked like it could have been a hotel the way it was set up and yes with the restaurants and other things planned for that area it would be great.. it isn't assuming that the residents will keep the businesses afloat..the businesses have to be ones that margate people will want go to..a robb and stuckeys is not the kind of place margate people shop at on a regular basis.. le

The market research is wrong...very wrong. It's the SMARTEST thing to do. I also agree that the shops pplanned must be of the "regualr, affordable" idea. That's even a better idea for the stayovers..affordable, clean housing..with mid-level type restaurants. Once again..research is WAY OFF here. I'd venture to honestly say..it MAY BE the only way the project survives. Coconut Creek plus all others are in the midst of their "downtowns"..Seems the new idea, really isn't "new" anymore.
