Wow talk about a lucky break.
It is sad that this man had to fight for 8 days to get the police to do something about it.
What is wrong with our police people do they forget that the first part of the job is to help.
If the husband had just gone out looking for her himself and told only a few people they would have arrested him for murder but try and get help and nobody in law inforcement cares!

Just like those two boys in Gary nobody from law inforcement looked for them either.

The police should take every case as emergency. You take this job means you like to help peope and rescue people's life.

They won't look for somebody if they don't meet criteria?? If somebody doesn't make it home then there is no evidence of foul play??? Sure glad I don't live there!!

I believe we now need additional citywide services. In addition to the police dept and/or fire dept. A Special Unit devoted to finding reported missing persons. Whether traffic or emergency it would free up other city services. investigating other sides of the report. Maybe EMT units connected with both departments?
Perhaps EMT's would be looking for someone after 24 hrs rather than 8 days trapped somewhere. Many people would be saved from horrific experiences of lying alone, hurt in a ditch.
Many people could train for this type of job rather than join the military or be out of a job. Traffic accidents have increased how much in the last ten years? What's the percentage of having a serious accident along bridges, ravines, etc.

Deputy Rodney C. Chinnick needs to reassess procedures.

"It's not that we didn't take him seriously," Chinnick said. "We don't take every missing person report on adults.... If we did, we'd be doing nothing but going after missing person reports."

Ok, so rather than searching for the missing person they rather waste time by searching the husband's home and scheduling a polygraph.

This is very sad, but at the same time WOW she must be a strong woman and GOD was with her that's for sure. To be trapped in her mangled car for 8 days HURT, NO FOOD OR WATER WOW THIS IS A MIRCALE! If this was one of my friends or family members I would have been out there day & night with a lot of my friends searching the route she drove home. Think about it a lot of accidents happen like this where a car, truck goes down a ravine. I would have looked all down the ravine alone the stretch of road that she drove home. I think it he would have done this with in a few days with the help of loved ones they would have found her sooner!!!

I AGREE WITH YOU 100% they should have looked very hard for this women along the stretch of road she took. They could have brought in a helicopter and I bet you then they would have found her very quickly!

If the police only want to look into criminal activity, we need another agency to look for people who need help along the highway. This is a case of someone who was expected home at a certain time and didn't respond to a cell phone call. It appears that once the work was done to trace her cell phone she was located quickly. If this is SOP, whoever is in charge of SOP needs to be put on the carpet. Of course, they shouldn't be sued, because God forbid some lawyer might earn his money making these bumbling bureaucrats actually pay for the damages to this poor woman caused by their mistakes.

The article mentioned that he DID seach that road. It's easy to say that he should have searched harder in hindsight, but at the time the last anyone saw of her she was getting into her car in a parking lot. Think of all the different scenarios that it could have been - carjacking, kidnapping, car problems, etc. The husband had no way of knowing where to concentrate his efforts.

I was in an accident almost exactally the same. A SUV as well. Upside down. I was on my way to a night job. My vehicle was impossible to see. My thumb was dislocated and my cell phone in my pocket. A nursing uniform. My pocket was below my seatbelt. My seatbelt unable to be unbuckled. After 2 hours of thinking and at the end of this death was feeling as though it was about to come. I somehow overcame the pain in my thumb and ripped my pocket and was able to get my cell phone........

Let this be a lesson: If you want someone found, don't rely on the local police. Hire a private investigator, and quickly.

He's lucky she lasted long enough for these fumble-footed Mayberry cops to figure out they could track her cell phone.
