So terribly sad! We need a lot more crosswalks on Witte Road. This is the 2nd kid in the last 10 years that has been killed trying to cross this road. That is way too many and it may have been prevented. People said we need sidewalks. But, where the kid was hit, that section, there were sidewalks, so I believe the answer is CROSSWALKS. The day before we had a 3 car accident on Witte as well. Our traffic is ridiculous in a town of under 25,000. The city is not able to keep up to accomodate our quick growth.

As a family friend, my heart goes out to Dustin's family and friends- we should all try and remember him as a good kid, and a great skate boarder and off road bike rider! I will always remember your warm smile and your addictive laugh! You will be truley missed!
The funeral is this Saturday at the (i think) Luthern church right off of Petrovisky Road by Shadow Lake Elememtery at 1:00. |

Shame on you, "annon"
While the circumstances of the accident may be in question, there is no question that this tragic accident could have been avoided. While the driver of the dump truck is doubtless going to experience feelings of guilt for this accident for some time regardless of whether or not there was anything he could have done to avoid it, he is at least going to be able to go on. Whether the accident could have been avoided or not, no one - child or adult - should have to pay this high of a price. Perhaps as the city grows, the officials should listen to the concerns of the residents and put plans in place to address the growing concerns of safety and city growth. Perhaps a skate park or other recreational area for the local teens should be considered. There is a terrible shortage of activities/meeting places in this town for teens. Instead of sticking houses on every available inch of land, why hasn't some been used to make parks for our kids? I also agree that there should be more crosswalks on Witte Road. Many times I have stopped and held up traffic so people (mainly children/teens) to cross safely. While there are crosswalks by the library and the elementary school, going toward Kent-Kangely there really should be at least a couple more. On a side note: Making judgements regarding a child's lifestyle and assumptions of those beliefs being correct based on an object placed in their memorial by someone else is fair neither to the child nor his parents. Actually posting that assumption in this venue where the friends and family could be hurt by it was in my opinion inappropriate. Nobody is perfect, and the teen years are tough enough to survive with your self-esteem intact. While a few of the skater kids sometimes have a less-than-angelic reputation, I have found that most are just good kids trying to find a place to hang out and have a little fun. When you see kids walking by or hanging out in your neighborhood, do you take a minute to just talk to them? If not, you really should. To the Moores: I am so, so sorry for your loss. There are no words to express what you have lost and I am deeply sorry for your pain. |

I love you Dustin, rest in peace.
you were the most amazing boy I've ever met. I'll see you again someday, just please look out for me from up there. I miss you. moore family: stay strong. |

My heart goes out to this family and his friends. What a tragedy. I can not imagine losing a child. I hope that the City of Maple Valley can roll-up their sleeves and help to open the new TEEN CENTER "The Den" at the Maple Valley Community Center... we need more places for our kids to hang out.

My condolences to Dustin's Family.
My daughter and husband were visiting my mother at the time of the accident. The tragedy had a profound affect on my seven year old daughter. I am angered by the comments made by annon. Did you not think how self righteous and libel your comment was. Suspicions is not a fact and you could be subject to a lawsuit if you are making comments based on suspicion and rumor. I guarentee you hurt this poor young mans family. I had a sister who was hit and killed by a car and rumors were rampant. I later found out that all rumors were untrue. It took me 9 years later to investigate(autopsy report/coroner) and deal with the rumors so if you think your reckless comments don't hurt they do. What you did was vicious you owe the family an apology or maybe they will sue you. |

Dustin lived in our neighborhood -- I didn't know him personally...but often saw him riding his bike and skateboard.
My son and I attended his memorial service & I have to say I was impressed by the many comments I heard about this young man -- his father's "mustang". He was wild at heart, embraced life and managed to impact numerous lives during his short stay on earth. To judge his choices, or what you perceive as HIS choices, would be wrong. From what I heard and saw, he loved freely and completely -- I wish I would have had the opportunity to have known him. I would encourage those who are quick to judge to take a look at who they are, their choices -- spend your time praying for this family...instead of looking for blame -- it only hurts, it doesn't heal. Godspeed to you Dustin -- and our prayers go out to his family that would hold the place of knowing him best, good and bad, and loving and missing him. Thank you for looking adults in the eyes, for teaching our little ones here in the neighborhood how to skateboard and for reminding us to embrace life. |

The comment by "Annon" is repulsive and cowardly. I can't imagine the bitterness that would inspire that viewpoint of the loss of a young man's life. My 8 year old son was also greatly affected by this incident (we were returning from school shortly after it happened), though we didn't know Dustin personally. When we talked about it my son said "Daddy, I think Dustin is important". I agree.

i knew dustin and grew up with him, and annon's comment filled me with anger. you cannot judge a person by what is on their grave or by their death, and dustin was a great person. we all make mistakes, and annon, i do NOT agree with yours at ALL.
get to know the situation before you make assumptions. i'm pretty sure you never knew dustin. your comment honestly repulsed me. |

Dustin was a good friend of mine you a**hole, he had just gotten his cast off and was on his way to the skatepark, SOBER. Just because he smoked marijuana(just like everyone else in maple valley) doesn't mean he deserved to have a stupid f**k of a truck driver run him down. go to h**l dips**t. |

1 One night me and a couple of friends were out driving when we got a flat tire at 2 in the morning. We were probably 15 miles out of Maple Valley, and had nowhere to go. We called our parents and our friends, but no one would come. But then we called Dustin, and it was no hesitation. He woke up his mom and sister and came to our rescue. Annon, I feel sorry for you. I feel sorry for the fact that you will never understand how good of a person Dustin was. I'm also sorry that you have chosen the path of a coward who decides to pick on a 16 year old who was killed riding his skateboard. You honestly believe that because of a potleaf on his memorial, he deserved to die? You should be ashamed. If any of you want to see how big of an impact Dustin had on our community and all of his friends, watch these videos at komo's website. The memorial video still brings tears to my eyes. http://www.komotv.com/results... Now Annon, if you died, do you think that 300+ people would gather at your memorial the next day? I doubt it, because you have no respect for others. |

Sidewalks should be put on Witte Road to prevent this kind of accident. Post a comment to agree.
