The Cpl George D Matthews Post 288 American Legion has been arounf for almost 38yrs and has recently come under fire since creating the Legion Riders Charter in October 2007, we have received numerous complaints about the motorcycles when they stage at the Post home to ride to an event or function. Last month the Post come under fire after 49 Patriot Guard Riders escorted the family of deceased WWII veteran for a Memorial Ceremony at the Post and was told the bikers scared the neighbors when they come in loud and rowdy and circled the neighbors car..I have video of that event and the bikes were escorted by the sherriffs dept and maintianed the utmost respect and dignity from start to finish - riders from motorcycle groups all over the state came to support our fallen comrade. We have been called rowdy and disrespectful of our neighbors and yet when we have a fundraiser at the Post home these same neighbors use their rights of free speech to flip us the bird -- we all as members of The American Legion Post 288 and our fellow Veterans before us fought for them to have that right! A few weeks ago the local motorcycle group Southern Riders rented our Turkey Shoot Shack to have a fundraiser for the Hope Line, out of respect for it being Sunday the shoot was not allowed to happen until after 2pm instead of the normal noon we do on Saturday, there were 2 bikes that attended this event as it was cold and yet the neighbor fighting us states 3 bikes sate in front of her house and revved their bikes -- obviously they weren't from our Post -- but the police were called on us. Numerous bikes travel down that road as people that live in the area, have friends or are just going to Crabbies and this is all being pointed at our Post. If the neighbors have an issue with our Post then they should come to one of our General meeetings held the first Tuesday of every month and bring their issues to the General Membership at the meeting if they feel the Post Commander is not doing his job instead of backdooring a Veterans Organization that has done so much for the community
