I would just like to say how OFFENDED I am as an American that Utah would hold the 4th of July celebrations on the 3rd. It’s not like Halloween or a different holiday which could fall on any day — IT’S THE FOURTH OF JULY! How dare the stupid Mormon religion take away my independence day because of their religion. Mormons go shopping on Sunday, they go to the movies, they go and do all sorts of things… I can’t STAND living in this HYPOCRITICAL state where the LDS cult leaders run everything!!! To whoever passes these ridiculous policies: YOU GUYS ARE COMPLETELY UNAMERICAN! Your religion is stupid and you only turn people away from liking LDS people by pressing your stupid ideas on the rest of the state.

I thought it would be great to live here so we moved here about 9mos ago and I have never lived in a state that was ran so much by a religion... I have come to hate it very much. It has made me change my mind totally about the LDS religion... I would NEVER become apart of the LDS religion to me all it seems like is a cult.. I don't know how anyone could think any different..........

You are all unfortunately showing your ignorance regarding "mormon-controlled" societal customs. Worldwide, most Christians have set apart Sunday as their Sabbath and day of worship. In Islamic countries, Friday is their day of worship. In those countries, where their is truly no separation of religion and politics, everything is truly shut down on Fridays. It has only been in recent decades that many of our cities across this great judeo-christian nation have lessened their adherence to setting aside a day of worship. If you did some research, you would find that there are many cities across the country that are having fireworks displays on the 3rd. Feel free to leave this great state. It's animosity like what you have displayed that makes life not pleasant here. If I lived in Rome, I would appreciate the customs there and conform my life to their traditions and be grateful for learning opportunities. Try to open your mind.

Yeah and most Christians still celebrate the 4th of July on the FOURTH.... It is offensive that the celebrations would be moved to the 3rd because of religious reasons. Just like once where someone who was Mormon I knew refused to march in a parade in our ROTC unit for Veterans Day because it was on a Sunday... needless to say everyone shared with them how insulting it was.

Fourth of July should always be on the FOURTH regardless of your religious beliefs...I live in Utah unfortunately and everything will be happening on the 3rd due to the 4th falling on Sunday...really lame!

If you HATE living in this "hypocritical" state then you are more then welcome to leave!!! Although I am not thrilled that the 4th of July celebrations are being held on the 3rd I am still proud to live in Utah!!! The reality is that in this state there are a lot of places not open on Sundays! However, you are still FREE to celebrate on the 4th as you see fit!!! Why don't you try to look at it in a more positive way and just take it that now you have 2 days to celebrate our great country!!!

Fortunately you are showing yours... I have done hours of (Google) research today, and I have not found one major city in the US that is celebrating our Nations grandest holiday on Sat the 3rd! So please take your brainwashed comments back to your little ward, where you will be happy with your punch and Green Jello eating in-brethren. I am upset simply because UT passionately claims to be the most conservative, patriotic, flag waving, "American values" state in the USA. The reality is that Theocracy rules, and the LDS church puts it's 'gods' above country.

Celebrating our Independence day isn't about fireworks, concerts, parades, drinking beer, and having cook outs. So what that Utah is holding the fesitities part of the holiday on Saturday, because on Sunday they will be at church talking about what living in this country truly means and teaching their kids about it in their Sunday School lessons. THAT is truly celebrating Independence Day!

Why facilitate the disrespect of the true holiday and devalue the celebrations by changing dates for the rest of us? I my self will be in church on Sunday morning praying for your confounded souls, and thanking my God for this amazing country. I will then (after church) honor my country at its proper time, with your aforementioned festivities.

I just spent two minutes and found that the federal day for observance will be on the 5th. So go ahead and get upset with the "mormons" when even the government isn't obseving it on the 4th.

There are places in Utah that will be celebrating Independence Day on Sunday. It just depends on what city you are in. If your area is not celebrating on the 4th, you can whine and complain, celebrate it yourself, or go to a place that is celebrating it on Sunday. When Independence Day falls on a weekend, the Federal Government observes Independence Day either the Friday before or the Monday after.

If you don't like the way we do things here in Utah then leave. We don't care. I kinda like the fact that I can go celebrate the 4th on Saturday in Provo and on Monday in Brigham with my family. 2 day of celebrating for 1 holiday, can't beat that.

Without god we wouldn't have this great nation, so yes he comes first! Thanks for the entertainment. You seriously have nothing better to do than to beat this dead horse. FYI this is not new to Utah!!!

The whole reason for not celebrating on a Sunday is for keeping the Sabbath day HOLY. Now after you go to church on Sunday, are you going to go have a few beers and break as many commandments as you can on His holy day? BTW Mormons are discouraged not to go shopping, to the movies, etc on any Sunday. Not told not to, just discouraged because it takes the focus off of Heavenly Father. People of the LDS faith are the most obedient to the commandments and are the happest people I've ever met, maybe because they obey the word of God and are blessed tenfold for it?

You people make me laugh. Church and government are supposed to be separate in this country. If it hadn't been for what happened on this day, you all would be practicing your "religion" in the basement still! And you mormons make me laugh the hardest. In the bible it says, "and god rested on the last day of the week." To my knowledge the last day of the week is SATURDAY. Our calendar hasn't changed. So all this horse hockey about not wanting to "violate" the sabbath day.. congratulations you messed up. Ha ha ha ha ha! Oh! And as far as being "discouraged" about doing things on sunday, bull. I know several wards, specially with your "young women" groups do things like movies and shopping on your "sabbath day." So while you're out in a stuffy building talking to your imaginary friends, I'm going to be out lighting fire works and celebrating all those who made our FREEDOM, to do everything religious and other wise, possible. HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMERICA!
