Hey everyone, just thought I should give my 5 cents. I know Danielle, and while my comments may seem bias, they are not. Laura Danielle Medina, is a great girl. Never broke a law in her life. Yes even though it was an accident she still dserves some time in jail, 11 years? No way. people have committed premeditated first degree murder and have got off lighter. She has no criminal history, and while she took the life of another human(R.I.P Michelle)no ammount of time will ever bring her back. I can recall a case where a woman ran over a friend of mines son on 81st street in oakland ca. She ran into the back of a daycare and ran over little Robert (R.I.P).
She recieved 1 year in the county jail. while many of you do not know. I honestly belive that the reason that she received so much time is because this D.A. was specifically out to get this girl, not because of the accident, but because of the fuss her mother Laura Rangel was causing and the news coverage it garnered. So now that the case was in the public eye, the penalty has to be a harsh one to send a message. Her mom while well intentioned, I believe cause all the notoriety. So my point is, just cause you kill someone, it does not make you a killer or a criminal. She was not drunk and is not an illegal immigrant. and even if she was an immigrant that has nothing to do with anything.I am not Mexican and my race is actually unimportant. It is veryunfortunate that this young woman had to lose her life, but to also make another young woman lose her life would be even worse. I did not know michelle, but I am almost 100% sure that if it were up to her, Danielle would be free.Personally if I were killed on accident. I dont believe I would want the person to spend time in jail, I belive that the time would be better spent educating others about the dangers of losing control. If only for a split second, because a split second can change your life FOREVER!

To all of the posters decrying bigotry and racism:

MEXICAN is not a race! It's a nationality folks! Being a nativist is not being a racist or a bigot it's about national sovereignty!

If you, as an American, have no problem with anarchy, the loss of national identity and national sovereignty - BORDERS, LANGUAGE AND CULTURE; than it is YOU whom I find suspect in your patriotism and allegiance to your country.

It's amazing how people focus on the petty bull that goes on by bashing on people for their race or for the way they act in public, only to play themselves as victims of these people. Whether they are whites, blacks, chinese, mexicans, or whatever! Stop it. Open your eyes. While we're living on the same planet, the same country, the same state, the same city, the same block, nothing will get better when we focus on the bad.

I'm not saying to forget and forgive; I agree, due the crime, pay the time. But when does the crime end when you're not doing anything to improve the city block you live in, or the city, or the state or your country? You expect things to get better by bitching about it? They won't. Your actions can only lead to results; good actions, good results -- bad actions, bad results.

Go back and think what you've done to improve the life around you. When you've done enough, then state the obvious -- don't throw it on anyone's face until then.

It's time to grow up!

"More characteristics of a psychopath that relate to Medina:
+ be glib or superficial
+ have a grandiose self image
+ be deceitful or manipulative
+ lack of remorse
+ lack of empathy
+ be impulsive
+ be irresponsible
+ be easily angered or frustrated
+ have serious problems as a child or teenager
+ shows callous unconcern from other's feelings
+ disregard social norms or the rights of other people
+ be incapable of experiencing guilt
+ blame others or rationalize antisocial behaviour"

You hit the nail on the head. Laura Medina only feels sadness for herself. Before this incident KTVU has footage of Laura Medina lying to get Raider Superbowl tickets. When asked by the reporter if she felt bad about being deceitful she proudly said no. I hope she rots for the next 10 years.

I'm sorry for the loss, really for both families. No one wins here and Laura should do the time, probably more. I read the article and she repeatedly rammed the Cavalier that Michelle was in - that is intentional and malicious.

I just think it's hilarious that Teri is so quick to point out Jewel's misspellings and then misspells...OMG, too much!!! Dying of laughter here. Not to take away from the forum subject, but I just love to correct know-it-alls...and please, if I'm wrong here - someone correct me. SPELT?!?!?!?! Holy crap. It's SPELLED. Teri, clearly you're trying to get way ahead of yourself here.

Maybe those details weren't mentioned in the news because they're irrelevant to the case. So you're saying that Michelle being so far away from home was a factor in her murder? Blaming the victim certainly is a narcissistic trait! I wonder if that's something eleven loooong years can rehabilitate. I sort of doubt it. I've read her blogs, and she sounds like she's getting used to being institutionalized. Good luck to your friend!

Sad for all parties involved. When I first read about this case, particularly the thing about her mom and the MySpace charade, I thought, "God, how narcissistic can you get. Where's your sense of personal responibility? It's your fault you set your anchor baby up for failure. Don't blame the DA. Maybe you wouldn't have to worry about a DA using you as his career scapegoat if you used your conscience." But then again, I remembered all the times I chased people on the road out of blind rage. I could have killed someone! Thank God I didn't. I might be rotting in prison for eleven years, too. Fighting over a fruit cup, or fighting off aggressive lesbian lifers. Whew.

Wow. I can't believe how stupid, ignorant, and judgmental people are. First of all, she was not drunk. Second, NONE OF YOU know what her intentions were. However, if you look at the facts, you can make an educated guess. The facts basically say that it was a heat of the moment decision to follow them... Not premeditated(which is why she was charged with Manslaughter, not First Degree Murder). Second, it was an accident. It wasn't done maliciously. Yes, it was the wrong decision to follow them... But how many of us have made dumb mistakes not realizing something serious could happen? Nearly everyone. For example, where I live, there was a man who got into a bar fight with another man. They were both throwing punches, and one landed on the other man's temple and he was killed. It was not the man's intention, nor did he think it could or would happen. People get into bar fights every day.... Nobody thinks anyone is going to die, nor do they think it's going to happen to them. People follow people every day, and they don't think anyone is going to lose their life over it. You have to consider their state of mind when making this decision. If someone was convinced of the risks, and did it anyway, then they deserve a harsher punishment than someone who did not. I think 11 years is RIDICULOUS. Like someone else said, there are rapists and child molesters who serve half that time.

Oh, and as for the race comments... Stereotypes are based on some type of truth. Truth is, statistics are statistics. Statistically, it's a 3-1 ratio of black to white men in jail. Per capita, black men commit more crime than anyone else. And no, you can't say I'm only making comments like this because I live in an all white town with hardly any crime, like someone said to another person stating facts. Springfield, MA is in the top 20 most dangerous cities in the U.S. I have personally had crime committed in my presence, and I've had it committed against me. However, Statistics tell the truth.

illegal mexicans is te problem right? whatever when you go to the welfare office all you see is white people and black people. Mexicans work the jobs the citizens of america wont work cuz the pay is too little or the work is too hard. If immigration laws weren't so difficult and lenghtly people would become citizens.I doubt Mexicans are the only ones commiting these crimes:Scott peterson,Btk killer, etc... on and on there is bad in EVERY race and ghetto people of every race, dont try to put it all on the mexicans. yall just hating cuz we are gonna over populate this muthafucka, and you guys cant stand to see us rising. Dude you should be cool and talk what you know! i was in chowchilla with Laura she is a very sweet talented girl that got put in a very bad situation. If you want to blame some one you should blame the cheating boyfriend and the angry friend that rode along side Laura encouraging the chase because it was her man. Blame the girl for knowingly being in the car with a man whom she knew was in a relationship.(R.I.P) Laura know what she did was not ok but it was accident. Anyway she livin it up on C yard she shop every month she get packages and she got a good wife to protect her so HA Hater.

Wow...All I have to say is, this thread has gone to s*** with all the racism. I Went to High school with Laura Medina. If anything shes more American than Mexican. She was never been the type to do anything malicious, let alone murder someone. She was not drunk that night of the accident. Even though I know Laura, the laaw is the law. You have to pay the price. But do think 11 years is way to much for an ACCIDENT like this. My heart goes out to the Dickerson family. laura was 21 young and immature. She's no threat to sociaty. Trust me I know her.

Daily Horoscope for December 9

Scorpio

If something is bothering you, it's important that you say so now, loudly and clearly. It's no good bottling things up any longer because that will only lead to resentment and a slow-burning anger. However, it's important that you know when to shut up too, otherwise you might overstate your case or sound so demanding that you turn others against you.
