Sheriffs going back to request radar use

I think our Sheriff's department would become dependent on the proceeds from the tickets. They
need to focus on county matters, not street matters.
We already have two other departments taxing our
travels,(city and state), we need, at least one
department focusing on home matters.. I say NO to
the Sheriff's deputies having radar guns! Not only
would it cost more for the county to equip and train
these "Barneys", but it would rob our already "stretched-to-the-limit " police resources.. They
just have a few "wanna-be" "Median-flippers"..

I agree with Miss Col.. Obviously, there are a "few"
in the county sheriffs' departments that dream of
making traffic stops.. I say, if they have this "fetish", they should become Troopers or City cops..

Who is it pushing this "radar tax" bill anyway..
It has already been voted down at least twice.. You
can't drive anywhere without worrying about getting
a ticket for this or that,(seatbelts, tags, inspection sticker, ect.), as it is.. The guys
pushing this bill should be exposed. I agree with
Bill Miles, county employees should focus on land
and home matters, not traffic... JB

Most county sheriff departments in Mississippi are under staffed, rural counties have only 5 or 6 deputies(if that many). The area they have to service is often several hundred square miles. The response time to a call is already delayed by having to travel from one end of the county to the other. The use of radar is going to compound this problem e.g. traffic stops, arrest, transporting prisoners, While the calls for service sit idle, waiting for a Deputy to get freed up. Customer service should be the focus, not filling the county coffers.

radar is a tool to make sure that ever is stays within the rules of the road. all police , city county and state has alot to do, but SPEEDING kills more than any other crime. and if all yall was not breaking the law then your would not get a ticket. so buckle up , dont drink and drive or speed then u not have to worry about be HARRASSED by the police. WE dont come to your place of employment and tell you NOT TO DO YOUR JOB..

I dont have a problem with the radar. But our Sheriff and his deputies show practice what they preach and set a better example. They are the majority that drives over the speed limit, they should not be above the law.
Not only that, there are a few JC deputies who give tickets now for as they say are for "apppearances only" I have respect for some of our officers but there are some who have no business checking radar.

You are so right. I often get passed by Sheriffs and local police. They do not obey the speed limits. I understand that sometimes they are making a call, but most of the time they are driving around on patrol.

Your car should be inspected.
Your car should be tagged.
You should use your seat belt.
You should obey the speed limit.
You should not be driving while impaired.
You should not be running red lights.
You should not be driving recklessly.

People who break these laws are probably the same ones breaking into your homes, destroying or stealing your property, and defiling your person or the person of your loved ones.

Bring on the radar! The sooner the better.

The "How DUMB c u b" post is "case in point". Not only are some of the cops UNAWARE of WHO they work for, but they can't even spell.. Do I want these idiots involved in a high-speed chase, I think not!! Talk about safety issues, how many cops and civilians have been killed while pulled-over for speeding? The numbers might astound you.. I say we have enough of our freedoms taxed already! Geesh, First of all, to compare a speeder to a
criminal is the type of mentality I don't want on
the police force! I can picture it now, county cops
sitting on their behinds in a remote location shoot-
ing radar. They'll have a ""legitimate" " excuse to
speed after the speeders and strut their lazy "authority". Sickening, isn't it. Second of all,
since when do the police petition for new laws????

Have you noticed how many "traffic" stops have resulted in drug arrests or outstanding warrants? Break one law and you will probably be breaking others. Just good ole common sense.

Stop a car with no tag and I'll bet that there's something else wrong. Just the other day a piece of s........ was passing everybody on 603 and other than describing the car there was no way to identify it. Why NO TAG>
I'm sick and tired of dodging idiots that think they belong on NASCAR. I am glad that they are talking about using radar. Next I want drug sniffing dogs in each radar car. Let's eliminate the trash that thinks they are more important than the rest of us.

Radar won't stop them. I see cars and trucks every day without tags, even commercial vehicles. Also, ever notice that when someone gets in an accident, the other person NEVER has insurance, even though it is mandatory? What they need to do is enforce the EXISTING laws and maybe increase the penalties. They can't even enforce the laws we already have. A lot of that has to do with there not being enough officers, but radar would just give them an easy source of income. In addition to that, everone seems to know someone in the system that can make that ticket disapear. i know this for a fact because I have done it for friends on several occassions. I don't agree with it, but hey, if they're willing to tear up a ticket, why not let them? I've worked with officers in several dpts along the coast, and it does matter who you know, and this won't stop the cops form speeding because they would not ticket each other. The laws apply to all of us.

"Cops". I'd be willing to bet you have seen every
episode. Seeing all those "deputies" in other
states having "all the fun" just eats a you! Well,
Mississippi is the poorest state in the Union. It's
very difficult for an awful lot of folks to even
be able to afford to drive in this state. If you
had been a good cop, you'd have reported the guy on
603 with your ever present radio. County cops should

You mean you don't *yet.* Deputy Fife, if you ever did come to my place of employment and told me not to do my job and I did my job anyway, would you write me a ticket for that or just use your taser on me to watch me dance around?

Look, give sheriffs and their deputies the power to write speeding tickets again, and two things will happen: 1) every chick'n sh1t county in Mississippi will have at least one speed trap, and 2) they'll write tickets all day every day just to help fund the department, and they'll do it with the supervisors' blessing.

We can't trust sheriffs with this power.

Maybe not a mute point yet. It depends on what the House does, although I think they were leaning towards passage. I'll check the Web site and post back here when I know something.

Maybe, then, we're safe for at least one more year from the county mounties.
