Traffic stop in Beatty reveals $750,000 stash

Is there a crime here? I do know that cops in Beatty are searching every vehicle they stop. They have drug dogs for each traffic stop. They are mostly preying on tourists who go to Death Valley and have a joint in the car. he cops fine them 2,000 dollars. The people never return. Beatty continues to die as a town. What a sh--hole!

Obviously you didn't read the article. The woman was released without charges. The money was seized legally because the woman claimed no knowledge, therefore, they have to try and ascertain who the owner is. The IRS requires documentation for amounts over $10,000 in cash. Without it, money is seized. If noone can prove ownership, the money is forfeited. I guess its ok though to let the tourists drive long distances on unfamiliar roads stoned out of their minds. You're no loss to the town of Beatty I'm sure.

There have been many abuses with seizures and cash amounts over AND under $10K. The fact that you need to document ANY amounts of legal tender carried in a state that has legal gambling (which requires cash) is idiotic to me. It is NOBODIES business how much cash I have in my pocket nor in my possession.

Beatty will never get any better than it is. I lived at the Beatty Apartments, and the woman that ran it was half-nuts.

That traffic stop that netted NCSO $750,000 big ones was planned. That's the way the sheriff got paid for allowing drug dealers in Nye County. If you were toting drug money in your vehicle, wouldn't you be veeerrry, veeerry careful to obey all the traffic signs so you wouldn't get pulled over? It was set up to go down this way.

Why should anyone care how much cash you have? If I paid 50 thousand cash for a house would my money be confiscated?

sounds like fahrumps das office is profiting from drug money,,makes it legal for the rest of us to keep say half of what we find right brian

Yah , lots of people drive stoned , drunk or what ever , I do agree with you , it is never there fault , olways some one else ..

Beatty is a lovely place - keep crime away and slam those who seek to destroy such a great place.

More Beatty corruption!!! They stop & search every single vehicle that passes through that town, or as many as possible, on the most innane violtions, going 26 in a 25 mile hour zone.. The ultimate goal is for seizures preferrable money!! Then they keep the money & some of it goes into the cops personla pockets... If this was drug money, why was the woman let released & sent on her way??? Wouldn't the goal to be to keep the drug delers off the street or just to line some pockets?? The answer should be to lock up these drug deling crimminls, but to Line the pockets is the answer!! Ironically, Deputy Dan shortly after the seizure was driving around in a brand new very expenxive sports car,, and of course speeding through town, running stop signs & all..Coincidence I think not?

Where does all the money go..does it help the local community? No,it just helps a few people get richer!!
