Im pretty new to this town. I've been reading thru Manhattan topix snd it seems like so many people have nothing but negative things to say. So far, I love it here.

Topix has become somewhat of a complaint department for some. Not much recently on here should reflect Manhattan as a whole.

This is a great town with fantastic people.
steer clear of the wamos, they are too good for new-comers, hold themselfs on a higher level, just look for the hand printed t-shirts declaring they are wamo's.

you can also single them out by all the 1/2 truths and history twistings, they also blame the blue building for eb=verything wrong with this town,if you see one go the other way.
And, you're still a tool. Do us all a BIG favor & gtf out of town.

It stands for "We Are Manhattan Originals". They are lifelong Manhattanites. They are a proud group and don't like it when new residents move into town only to bash it and try to change it.

They are lifelong Manhattanites. They don't like it when life goes on and inevitable change happens. They want thing to stay the way they are, and live in denial of one of life's great truths: You either change on your own terms, or you change on someone else's terms. Like the residents of countless other farm towns across the country, many of them will not contribute to constructive dialog and planning, but instead cocoon themselves and ostracize any and all new-comers, and thus chart a course that will ensure that their town will turn into either an overcrowded, poorly planned, sprawling suburb with no character, or Schaumburg Part 2. If they were open and honest about the inevitability of change, they could work to strike a balance, preserve Manhattan's history and character, and grow and adapt wisely. Many of them will find themselves strangers in the "new" Manhattan, and will find themselves "new-comers" in other small towns, and if there's any karma, they'll be treated as poorly as they treat people who are new to Manhattan.

... I hasten to add that many new-comers were the "WAMOs" of the towns they came from, who had to flee because they fell into the same trap and watched their towns fall into sprawl, crime, or both. So the WAMOs better learn to work with the new-comers before they find themselves totally out-numbered and out-voted.

ORIGINAL WHAT? DIDNT SOME TRAIN BREAK DOWN IN THE 1800'S AND STRAND ALL OF YOU HERE? YOUR SO PROUD OF BEING "ORIGINALS", YOU DIDNT FOUND JAMESTOWN OR THE 13 ORIGINAL COLONIES... ITS A SMALL FARMING TOWN WHICH UNFORTUNELY FOR YOU IS NOW A SUBURB OF THE SPRAWLING METROPOLIS CALLED CHICAGO, SO GET USED TO IT. IT ISNT GOING TO STOP GROWTH OR "OUTSIDERS" FROM MOVING TO YOUR TOWN AND DEMANDING POSITIVE AND MUCH NEEDED CHANGES.
A FEW YEARS AGO YOU HAD THE VILLAGE MANAGER SIT IN A LAWNCHAIR FOR 8 HOURS COUNTING CARS WITH A CLICKER SO YOU COULD GET YOUR FIRST TRAFFIC LIGHT?
YOU ARE PROUD OF THAT? THATS NOT BASHING, THATS POOR PLANNING. AND THE NEW RESIDENTS ARE NOT TRYING TO CHANGE IT, THEY ARE CHANGING IT. SO GO FOUND ANOTHER TOWN SOMEWHERE, AND BE AN "ORIGINAL" FOUNDING FATHER SOMEWHERE ELSE.

Daily Horoscope for May 18

Aquarius

Watch out if you're going shopping, because you'll be tempted to splash out on impulse buys. This doesn't matter so much if you're feeling flush, but it could cause problems if you're supposed to be counting every penny. Whatever the state of your finances, you may buy items you don't need and possibly even won't like when you look at them again tomorrow.
