Doyle has business and life experience to help guide his decision making, not the pressure to get elected for a lifetime career in politics.

Voted For Doyle Karpen
Doyle has business and life experience to make informed decisions for the people of South Dakota. I am a registered republican, but party lines don't matter to me...I vote for the person who I know will do the best job for me as a South Dakotan!

I voted for Dusty 6 years ago, but after watching how he works realize that he is a typical politician. His promises are shallow and he spins facts. His ads, at first blush are great, but say nothing. He epitomizes everything that has gone wrong with politics-- spin, money, life at the public trough. And the PAC money? Wow. Karpen has been a low key public servant whose only goal has been to help others. I am convinced that he is not looking for a job at taxpayer expense. He is a common guy and has got my vote this time around.

I have not known Doyle very long, but from what I've heard about his business background and experience, he is the man for the job. We need to clean house in Pierre and get our state back on the right path for our citizens.

I'm a Republican, who chooses the right man for the job. Dusty Johnson is the wrong man. We need Doyle Karpen to take the PUC commissioner's seat, and be responsible for the citizens of SD. Johnson gave the customers of BHP a 12% raise in electric rates, and would have allowed 25% had the public outcry not stopped him there. I'm tired of the elevator music, lets change the record, vote for Doyle!!

Wow. It seems as thought the posters here have succumbed to the bitterness of a hyper-partisan age.
Dusty is "just a fast talker with a FlimFlam style"? Shannon, please provide an example. Dusty is a sincere and authentic person. I would think you could build Doyle up without resorting to attacking Dusty.
Jerry, what percentage of Dusty's contributions have been from the "PAC Money" you speak of? I would bet a very, very small amount. Please provide information if I am wrong. Which of Dusty's promises are "shallow"?
Another Republican, Dusty may be younger than Doyle, but he is 34 years old, which is older than Daschle or Herseth or Pressler when they were elected to Congress (I think). I suspect you didn't refer to them as "some kid."
There are plenty of reasons to vote against Dusty, but he is a good friend of mine and I am disappointed that this forum, rather than being about policy and facts is just an opportunity for some of you to anonymously hurl insults at a very hard working, very honest man. I wish you knew how much he cares. Why does politics have to always be about tearing down those willing to serve?
How many insults have Dusty or his supporters directed toward Doyle?

Greetings Mick. Please note that I do not attack candidates, but do take issue with their policies and public style. Shallow promises--Dusty mentions that he has kept promises. He claims responsibility for the increase of cell phone towers, mentioning over two hundred I believe. Private companies had plans for most of those towers well before Dusty was elected. I will help to widely disseminate proof of that and his PAC contributions in the coming weeks (However small you think they may be.) Dusty also takes credit for wind towers. Again, private enterprise had plans for most of those before Dusty was at PUC. He either didn't know that, or he knew and past it off as his accomplishment anyway. In my opinion, these are the equivalent of him having promised that the sun would rise in the east if he is elected and afterward claiming that he kept the promise. I realize that is common in today's politics, I just don't care for it. They are shallow promises, no specifics, no substance. Dusty seems to be a very nice person, and I am sure he is a great friend. Probably hardworking, but for $90,000 a year plus benefits, I would hope that he is working hard for us! I simply prefer to vote for someone that does not live off of the taxpayer their entire life. I subscribe to the belief of our founders that public service is sacrifice without personal gain. After giving consideration to both candidates, I will vote for Karpen this time. Next time, we will see. Mick wrote: Wow. All who have watched the debates can see that Dusty is a very intelligent, hardworking Commissioner. While Doyle seems to be a salt of the earth guy, he seems incapable of mastering the issues of the PUC.
