What are you waiting for? Get digging. Oops, watch out for that ancient Indian burial ground. Oh, there's a Spotted owl... forget it.

I lived there for awhile in the early 90's while I was in college. Only thing I can remember is an antique store that had lots of puzzles. Still better then where I live now!!!

I was born in Dickinson N.D. and have LOTS of family there. I can assure you that the folks there very much support oil exploration and extraction..as they have for many years. The oil is one thing, but the recent announcement also addresses equally substantial deposits of natural gas and other minerals. If the Bakken Formation was controlled by OPEC or the Saudis..it would be on the front page of every newspaper in the country.

My Grandparents came from Russia during the revolution. I often wondered why they chose to build the farm out there a few miles north of Dickinson. I asked my uncle what compelled them to stop there instead of continuing west. He said for one thing..the property was almost free. The other is that it looked a lot like the land they fled from during the Russian Revolution. I'm glad my parents chose to move to the Northwest when I was just a kid. But I do enjoy visiting now and then. Good fishing..and people still leave the door unlocked and the light on. But the oil and gas deposits are embraced by the locals. They've been working those fields for a long time. It seems to me that having that much oil in our own country should be a priority and considered a huge step towards lessening our dependence on foreign oil. I read yesterday that costs for exploration in the area would be prohibitive. The response was that the exploration has been done, and that we know exactly where the oil is. Again..the response was to side step the issue and change the subject to Co2 emissions and the negatives of ethanol production.(By the way..in the 1980's the government actually paid members of my family NOT to grow corn or wheat on their farm).

Or, "It will take 10 years to bring ANWR oil on line, we can't wait that long." Democrats have been saying that since 1995, wait, thats 13 years ago, Hummmm?
