I'm looking to run up to williston with a resume (no oil expirience), fill out some applications..and get a drilling job in about a week from now. What are my chances of not being let down? If anybody has any advice, or any information about some of the rigs in williston or dickinson i would be very interested to hear about it.

Tom..as long as youre clean you have a very very good chance at being hired somewhere. Workover rig places such as Halliburton, Sanjel, and Schlumberger and the drilling ones like Key, Nabors, etc are pretty much all hiring. In fact Halliburtonjobs(dot)com has a list of all the jobs there, and I think you can even apply online.

Halliburton is a workover rig company and you can apply there online at halliburtonjobs.com . Other places I'm sure are available online, too. Schlumberger, Sanjel, Key, Sun, etc

Your chances are very good, tony williams. Halliburton is having bumper stickers put on some pickups saying that they are hiring even.

Reading through alot of posts and first hand knowledge of living in North Dakota (I grew up in Wilton, 20 miles north of Bismarck, moved when I was 30) how great a place it is to be. I now live in Alabama and hate every minute of it. It is amazing to me the level of incompitance and the extremely low level of mechanical aptitude in the south.

Recently Volkswagon has decided to build a new plant in TN, would be nice for some of these new manufacturers to look to ND. The trouble is the work force. In the south there are so many unskilled workers that for every person that doesnt work out, there are 1000 that will take his place. Union is a swear word in the south, even talk of it is enough to get you fired in alot of places.

I work for a government contractor, creating programs for validating machined parts. I have no college education, however, my level of mechanical understanding and experience working at Ingersol Rand Bobcat (formally Melroe in Bismarck) put me far beyond the level of most of the engineers with a degree.

I think a big priority to keep people in the state would be advertising to these new businesses by our congressmen. With the though of the new Super Highway coming through ND, it shouldnt be a factor in regards to getting materials in and out of ND.

I love North Dakota. I hated it when I was young, thinking how boring and plain it was, now all I want is to go back. The crime and violence in the rest of the country is appalling! It is closter phobic, people are EVERYWHERE and very few have any skills what so ever.

Learn from your elders younger people. Their hands on training and expertise is not something you can learn in a school. Work Ethic is going to be your best ally for finding a job. Work hard not only speaks loudly to an employer of how good you are, it is also self gratifying to yourself in a job well done.
