I'm trying to find some information about a old prominent ranch that was operated a century and further back, ago. It sat right on the state line, hence the ranches name. The land was owned by the Burdue family.
Mr. Burdue had two daughters, unsure what they're names were. The Burdues had several people working for them, two of them were the Jefferies brothers.
The two brothers had fallen in love with the two Burdue sisters.
Since Mr. Burdue had seen that the brothers were respectful, hard working, and responsible,he granted permission for the marriages.Out of one marriage came my granddad-Bennie Jefferies,he was born in the late '20's.I don't recall the name of my great uncle unfortunately.
I was told that the barn is still there, and maybe a old house that could have been added onto over the years. The ranch sat close to Manchester, but not sure exactly where it was.A lot my ancestors are buried in Anthony's 2 cemeteries.
In fact, just Saturday.the last direct claim to the old ranch had passed away, that was great aunt Roxie Burdue, she was 98.
She had still owned the land, right up to her passing. She has kids,so the ranch land may go to them, unless they sell off they're heritage,(and mine).
The Jefferies brothers had also been skilled wood workers, and I was told had helped construct several buildings in the area, including a church in Anthony.
If anyone sees this, and knows ANYTHING,could you pass the information on? I have 4 kids of my own,and letting them know of they're family history is very important to me.
Thanks in hopeful advance,Belle Plaine decendent.
