Dear Grandmother: You and I as well as many others are genuienly concerned about the state of our community, especially due to the lack of leadership, the level of corruption, and the lack of vision to work to sustain and develop our communities potential.
I have asked and urged our citizens to become more involved in civic affairs and to attend more Board of Education, City Council, and Fiscal Court meetings and to have your voices heard.
It is within the power of each and every voter to make a change, a positive change, and we must work together to elect leaders and to also become more active leaders ourselves so that we can enact true, lasting, and positive change.
I too, recall fondly the movies in downtown, the skating rink, the swimmming pool, etc. and how they provided our youth an opportunity to have social and recreational activities that were in their hometown and were affordable for most anyone.
We can do better! Together we can make a difference.
I have set here and read the forums and I laugh, cry and wonder what is going. I am starting this discussion to see how many respond to it about our future teachers, politicians, pastors, doctors and nurses. We need to become more concerned about the kids growing up in this town than who is prettiest or ugliest who's seeing who and who is a rat and who's in jail or not.
Does any one truly want to see their children, grandchildren in jail or on drugs? I didn't think so well we have a problem here in Clay County that the law, FBI, or unite has been able to solve. We as parents and grandparents need to stand up and get some activities in our town. Why not take all that money being made tax wise to better this town have a skating rink, dancing for those under 18 years of age, arcades, movie theater and swimming pool just to name a few things. EVEN WHEN THEY HAD THE SAVE THE CHILDREN PROJECT IT WAS SOMETHING FOR THE KIDS TO DO(dances arts and crafts)Come on Clay countians lets get involved I don't want my grandchildren setting around drinking and slowly but surely turn to drugs and thst's another generation to bite the dust.
We had a theater, swimming pool, skating rink, and dancing in the old sewing factory years ago we had a town that got involved with all the parades and the best Christmas parade and shopping around. I remember it didn't just include the ones that lived in city limits everyone got involved.
If anyone is truly intested in getting involved rich or poor let's do something about it PLEASE!!
