Manassas police handing out tickets ... for Slurpees

Full story: Journal Messenger

Instead of a citation for a trip to the local jail, these special tickets will entitle a young person to one free small Slurpee from participating 7-Eleven stores as part of the company's Operation Chill initiative, said Manassas police Crime Prevention Specialist Adrienne Helms.

I think this is a great idea. The officers need to be out and seen and talk to the kids every day. That way the kids grow up thinking, "Oh, I feel safer knowing there's an officer near by." instead of, "Oh oh, someone's doing something wrong otherwise they wouldn't be watching us."

yeah that'll never happen. Cops aren't supposed to be your friends, and they're the last thing you should ever consider entrusting your complete safety to.

Nobody should ever trust a police officer, i don't care who you are or what you believe in, because contrary to popular belief they do not benefit your personal well-being, they benefit the laws that govern them. And the laws that govern them, are the same laws that empower them.

Giving out icecream one day, and then horrendously brutalizing a subdued victim the next or racially profiling people, because they can get away with it, isn't something kids should grow up to idolize.

"horrendously brutalizing a subdued victim"
Perhaps that "victim" is resisting arrest?

"or racially profiling people"
Ok, so there's been a robbery by a tall white teenager... let's look for a little old hispanic lady... make sense? I think not.

Daily Horoscope for May 22

Cancer

The question of who and what you should believe is never far away today. Someone could easily mislead you, although it's a moot point whether they do this intentionally or not. Or there could be a communication glitch that means no one knows what's going on. Be very careful when handling money because there could be lots of silly mistakes, and if you're really unlucky there might also be some double-dealing too.
