a conversation with scott holloway

It was cold and getting rather late when Scott Holloway came rolling up to our place. Scott announced that he was running for Sheriff and wanted our vote. Judging by the weather and time of night I believe truly, he did.

The following is a capsule of what Scott had to say.

Scott's family has been in the area since the 1830's.

He is a family man with 4 kids, who is actively involved in the community. He is an Arkansas Constable, a football coach, and the president of the Fulton County Firefighters Association.

Scott has served for ten years as the Chief of the Morriston Fire Department. You can hear the pride in his voice as he speaks of his family and his community. The fact that he genuinely cares and really wants to improve what he calls the state of the Sheriff's Department, is backed up by the following .

I have worked in and with Law Enforcement since 1991. I am a, Certified Law Enforcement officer, graduated from Arkansas Law Enforcement Training Academy class of 99D, 480 hrs.

I find that it is important to live up to the Law Enforcement Code of Ethics which states that an officer serve mankind, to safeguard lives and property, protect the innocent against deception, the weak against oppression or intimidation, and the peaceful against violence or disorder. To respect the Constitutional rights of all men to Liberty, equality and justice.

I recognize the badge of my office as a symbol of public faith, and I accept it as a public trust to be held so long as I am true to the ethics of the police service. I will constantly strive to achieve these objectives and ideals, dedicating myself before God to my chosen profession... Law Enforcement..

What more could a voter ask for?

Sounds like he has great qualifications, however I've never heard Scott say what he was going to do to make things any different.

Will you have the opportunity to speak with the other candidates? I think it would be interesting to hear their responses to identical questions.

Sounds great JOK. I look forward to reading your post. I think it is great that you are taking such an active role in helping citizens decide who the best candidate will be. I may not always agree with you, but know that your efforts are respected.

lol-----I do not always agree with me either.
I just started this thing to get some discourse going in our neck of the woods.
I think problems in any community are for the most part transparent. It is the solutions, and opportunities that need revealing.
The information superhighway has at last given us a tool to meld our commonalities into actions.
Just think that a discussion among strangers leading to a common opinion that we need more sheriff presence has just taken place. Unheard of just six months ago in Mammoth Spring.
Mammoth Spring needs all the help it can get, not just physical in terms of volunteerism, but in terms of leadership.
Leadership in the information age is an especially nebulous term in the the context of where it will come from and how it will be applied.
People like yourself, atlongr, and klr, have filled in ad hoc fashion a leadership vacuum by demanding more of Sheriff candidates then ever before in this part of the County.
I will try to keep my end of the bargain up by posting remarks from all candidates, including Walter.
Please keep posting. Mammoth Spring needs you.

If you pay taxes like you spell,I don't think anyone has to worry about it.
Also,"concerned" is spelled this way.

Boy, Frank will have a field day with CD's posts. Hope he doesn't figure out how to use little red marks on her papers. As for Scott wrecking cars maybe he was actually trying to catch a criminal. What a novel idea.

Frank,
Would you be willing to pay your tax dollar to clean up a public nuisance inside a private campground, over and over and over again?
That's what we all do, over and over and over again.
By the way the number of Criminals Scott Holloway personally put away more than makes up for a mistake he may of made.
As I recall, he and Mike Davis took out a really heavy Meth Lab about two weeks before Scott and Walt had a falling out.
Scott as I hear tell quit, he was not fired.
My concern about the upcoming election is that the votes for Scott, Brian and Denny will pretty much cancel one another out and Walt will ride into office once again.
Not that Walt is all that bad, he gives it his best shot. However, the pulse of the county has, in my opinion, raced past his grip. Time for him to head toward pasture.
What do you think Frank?
Before closing----a little off topic-------
The Sheriff Station in Salem is a physical abomination. Fulton County needs to muster the leadership needed to get it modernized, or replaced.
We are driving into the future looking into the rear view mirror.
Hope all who read this have a good day.

I am going to resolve some issues that seems to be concerning some of you.

one: you are correct Iwas not terminated I resigned my post with the former chief deputy James Laney, not because of a cow either....
the cow incident was rather embarrising at best but I had another certified officer with me after following up on a theft investigation in another Izard county(with walters consent) I followed all protocals contacted State and Izard County citations were issued and thier insurance covered.

two: my resignation was printed in the local paper (Area Wide Media) and explained my regrets, but also my explination .Which was I felt that I could better represent my county and community better outside the Sheriffs department under the current sheriff. Nowing full well that I would be expected to run for Sheriff because of the concers of people like yourselves.
I am very passionate about my county and the residence and I am not going to sit here and ride the fence, on issues if you want o know just ask there are so many but I have a solution and surround myself with friends like Mike,Jamie Jaremy and others who have alot of expireence and loyality to thier communities and if I dont have the answer they will you just have to know where to look.
None of the candidates have all the answers to all the problems there is just to many and if any of them say that they do, then we must have met the second coming.
I have several proven plans that work one is to have officers assigned in diffrent areas of the county, and yes one in Mammoth I already have volunteer!!!!
One in the Saddle 9 mile ridge area, Camp Agnos Glencoe Heart, Morriston area. Byron, Viola area, and the Gepp, Elizabeth, Vidette areas.
By doing this it solves many problems the area of the river will be all but constantly patrolled residential and buisness, and by three deputies at diffrent intervals and then they also have back up. I would like to impliment more reserves but that is a monitary concern that has to be approved by budgeting with th Quorum court.
Yes I know that Fulton County dosent have alot of revenue but most of the reserves have volunteerd to work for me but the situation is Workmans Comp.
These Duputies that are assigned to these areas will get to know thier residence and the problems in thier assigned areas, and ideally I would like to have township meetings with the deputies and residence in those areas to address those problems. Now you must realize that the problems in the Mammoth area is going to be some but not all the same problems in diffrent areas such as Gepp, Camp, Corner Town, so on and so forth.
Like I said I have alot of plans for our county, and alot of hope and respect for the office and the residence.
I would like to see that you all come out and vote and support me, but for gods sake lets not have law enforcement run like it has been for the last 40 years.....Its time for a diffrence and a change its time for new blood, its time for the people of Fulton County to care by making thier voices heard and stop using the same old addage that "It dosent matter who we vote for thier going to elect who they want anyway...." Not if we all stand up and let the people know that the last time we remember this is still a democracy and not a dictatorship.....We may not have alot but we do have our honor and we have our pride in Family,God,and Country, they make take away alot of things but they wont take away our freedom of speech.
I would like to thank you for letting me step up on a soap box and express a few thoughts now lets make a diffrence and vote....
I would appreciate your support.

Scott, thank you for weighing in on your own behalf. No disrespect to Walter, but perhaps it is time to usher in a new guard. Walter, by and large, served Fulton County to the best of his ability under some trying and unusual circumstances. In the final assessment I hope that his fellow citizens will look upon his overall record favorably.

On March 5th JOK posted "An Interview With Brian Sanderson" which is accessible at the URL below.

Fairness and diplomacy being necessities, I'd also like to ask you: If elected as Sheriff would you, Scott Holloway, consider reinstating exemplary former SO employees who had been "convinced" to resign in recent times?

Fir Na Tine, my friend. Best of luck.

Thank you, Scott. Given that there's no means to respond privately via Topix, please feel free to contact my ID @hotmail.com

The volume of BS flamewars here on Topix render productive communications moot. Life's too short to willingly subject oneself to such behaviors, ya know? ;oD
