Car sales are up because everyone on LI is wrecking the cars they already have. Soon insurance will be as much as the boros. Come on people...don't drive over lines and have head on collisions, turn your head before changing lanes and stop drinking!!! You have to make more money in New York because of the cost of living.As far as education that's another issue.Most of the educated people that I grew up with in New York have moved elsewhere....Look at CNN moneyline and do a cost of living compare NY to any city state.

Anybody find this item on rising car sales on LI a little bit suspicious??? I am a mystery shopper and have visited dozens and dozens of LI car dealers since Jan 1,'08 and I can tell you for a fact that to a dealer their businesses are in the toilet. Newsdays main ad dollars are from auto advertising....display and classified - would you expect Tom to say anything else. Come on Tom...tell the truth.

Ken Hansen is correct; I install dealer computer hardware; LI dealers are down compared to 2007.

But this is Newsday...the home of Bu!!sh!t circulation numbers!

New Yorkers make more money and pay more in taxes. Additionally, the cost of living is higher in NY.

I graduated from Syosset High School in 1980,... the vast majority of my classmates left Long Island as it was just too expensive.

BTW I make an excellent salary and I think Long Island is too overpriced.

New Yorkers like Rapper 50 cent, can afford to have a high priced suburban " Crib" for the woman they 'Shack-Up' with, so what's another SUV ? O'course when she torches the house cause 50 cent threw her A__ Out, that could slow the new car sales, especially if the insurance company gets wind of her torchin' it. Long Island is just a different sorta place, compared to the rest of the country.

It didn't look like the garage was empty in the photo's of the fire. The accelerant must have run out before she reached the garage.

The only major difference is the cost of housing after that things are not that much different, food, autos, clothing, etc. Throw in the fact that your salary doubles in the Northeast, assuming you are lucky enough to find a decent job where you live (I ain't talkin about a Wal Mart job) and the difference is clear. There is a reason that 20 million people live in the tri state area, when you retire from here you can buy Port St Lucie. I just got back from Florida, there are NO jobs. People were selling their homes for 75 grand and they were lined up 5 and 6 in a row with for sale signs. There is nothing down there but minimum wage jobs.

If the rest of the world hates us that might be a good thing, its called envy. That is the same reason why the rest of the country hates New York as can be evidenced by your prior posts. BTW tell us about the massive mass transit system you have in Norwood PA. It must save huge amounts of fuel by getting all those millions of people of the roads.
