Why doesn't it ever make news when clients attack the staff, or even rape each other. And how are you supposed to keep control of violent adults that have been sent here instead of prison. Some of these clients should not be allowed in public at all, but they are, and we're responsible for them, but our hands our tied and we can not restrain them to the extent needed to protect themselves and the public. Clients have broken their own legs and continued walking on them and assaulting staff before any one knew their leg was broken. Staff assaults are very common, and never in the news or paper. Fighting back against an assault is cause for termination, we are required to be beat by clients. Excellent system.

Has anyone researched the injury that was sustained by Amy Hardy RTS at GRC? A VERY violent 300 pounds and over 6 ft. in stature young man attacked her & she ended up in ICU with a closed head injury (heard she also had a brain bleed), a concussion and bulging disks in her neck. I heard 3 of the 4 disks were bulging! Amy has not returned to GRC since the day she was attacked, I heard that she was fired. Great...as a staff you get hurt following GRC's policies and procedures (MANDT is a joke!) and you get PUNISHED FOR DOING YOUR JOB & GETTING HURT! IS THAT RIGHT PEOPLE! Where is the justice for AMY & HER 2 LITTLE GIRLS?! What about her rights? I read that Amy was preventing this client from leaving the unit due to his violent behavior and making verbal statements that he wanted to go to the school (that is on campus as well as a daycare center for children) and "GET A KID". This client has had to be physically removed from the school on numerous occasions. He only elopes to the middle school while school is in session. Hummmm...another thing to think about is if GRC closes its doors this client may end up living next door to you! Where else is he going to live? Prison is not an option, so what do you suggest? Better come up with a solution before this client is your neighbor, I know he will be watching your kids play in your own front yard! He will be planing to hurt one of them. There are alot of violent individuals @ GRC, even documented pedifiles!!!!! BUT because of their MR status they are not registered! THINK HARD PEOPLE!!!!! Do we REALLY want these facilities closed, NO WE DO NOT! BUT the state needs to KNOW these violent individuals and CHANGE the current system...CUZ IT ISN"T WORKING!!!!!

The public needs to know that a lot of GRC's residents are questionable mental retardation (borderline IQ) with a diagnosis of serious mental illness. These residents have explosive disorders (verbally & physically aggressive, sexual issues
(a lot of the men are noted as raping women and children, this includes violating staff members as well as people who live in the community) These behaviors are documented in the residents file! The public needs to take safety measures if GRC closes its doors and these residents end up living in your neighborhood. Due to the MR status of the residents the police are directed NOT to arrest these residents, even if they are inflicting serious injuries to the workers at GRC or other residents that they live with. I feel that if these individuals are a danger to society the state of iowa needs to stop hiding behind the label of mental retardation and look at the BIG picture and start providing safety measures for all involved! The state of iowa is untrustworthy and denies the reality of the situation placing people in dangerous situations!

The pay, insurance and retirement. Were does flipping burgers pay over $20 an hour plus benefits, state benefits at that. Three 8 hr shifts a day flipping burgers won't even match my paycheck, let alone the benefits.

They don't even pay close to 20 and hour, and even at 20 an hour is it really worth the schooling years you endured to gain that great position. I feel it is paid slavery. Monetary fiat funds are worthless, backed by NOTHING! Worthless slavery paper products of our children's demise.

Daily Horoscope for December 19

Leo

A loved one is being rather tetchy today. It won't take much to get on their nerves, even if you think they're being grossly unfair about it. Try not to make the situation worse by being sarcastic or provocative. Instead, encourage them to tell you what's wrong but without raising their voice. Once you know what you've done to irritate them you can start to put it right.
