I believe the only public school in the Tulsa area that is worth more than a damn academically is Booker T. Washington. Other than that, look into Cascia Hall... Union, while I had a great experience when I was there, has gone overboard with their athletic programs, while sacrificing academic needs. I played football there and was involved in a number of other activities, and was a high achiever when it came to my grades, but I still was ill-prepared for the rigors of college- as I am sure many of Union's graduates fin themselves in agreement.
In no way would I exempt the other big schools as having the same issues academically. UHS has simply been more scrutinized because they have been successful athletically in recent years. As far as the comment about steroid use, in no way does Coach Fridrich allow that. Union's summer workouts are very intense and will make athletes bigger, faster, and stronger. Sure, football players and other athletes will use sports supplements, as I did; however, steroids, or HGH, or any hormone therapy at all is not tolerated at all. What you see on the field is the product of an enormous amount of hard work, nothing more- nothing less. Either way you look at it, it is another government run institution... |

Way to go UNION!! You people will complain about anything, won't you? "So why are they not in the top 10 academic programs?" ...my gosh, quit already!! Do you know how many high schools there are in the country??? For one of our own to be top 10 in any category is simply amazing...especially when you consider how severly underfunded they are.

A true example of misplaced priorities. One reason our school are severely underfunded is because we were more concerned about football than educating our kids. Now that those kids are grown up they can't add or subtract to fill a job that pays above the minimum wage, thus leading to a smaller tax base and further underfunded schools. |
