I have lived in Marysville now for a little over a year. I pay full city tax to Marysville as well as full city tax to the city I work in. I'm a single parent and thankfully will be moving shortly as I pay almost as much in city tax as I do total for state tax! I honestly haven't seen much in this town to do unless you are a big drinker.

I have lived in Marysville for a little over a year. I pay full city tax to Marsyville as well as full city tax to the city I work in. I pay almost more in city taxes than I do in state tax. I am a single parent and will be moving soon as I just don't see what the city has to offer for as much as I'm paying. I do know a person that has been picked up twice for DUI's and hasn't had to spend one day in jail...seems like a safe place to raise a child. lol I'm sure I'm not the only one paying full city tax...makes you wonder where the money's going.

Sick of It I know exactly what you mean! My husband and I both work in Columbus and pay those taxes as well as the 1% tax to Marysville...it's a pain!!! Adding more taxes is only going to make times tougher! Maybe I'm the only person seeing all these "FOR SALE" signs up on house, there's a reason for it! People just can't afford it right now. All these proposed tax cuts it only going to drive more people out of Marysville, which in turn is going to decrease tax revenue more!
So glad

I'm so glad I got out of that dumphole of a town last year. It's going down faster than a 747 with no wings.

For those complaining about paying for the City tax you work in and for the one you live in, several cities in the state of Ohio do this so don't act like it is just Marysville. My confusion is when the first proposed the tax increase it was for new buildings, so if you didn't get the tax increase you didn't get new buildings right? But some where along the line they changed their tune to scare tactics to pass it and that still didn't work. So I guess I am just confused by the whole thing. Too many times did I here them say Dublin has this and Dublin has that. Well if we are going to have Dublin taxes I expect Dublin services as well

Short stuff & Clueless better check your facts.

First there is no such thing as free in this world. If you think i believe the ladder truck was free with a 675,000 grant you have saddenly mistaken. Most grants require the department to participate a certain % of the purchase. Good for Marysville takening advantage of the grant (no issues there).

Second, replacement of a 32 year old truck. If my memory serves me correct they purchased a nice ladder truck back in the late 90's. Interesting!

Third i never stated laziness in any form nor intelligence of the firefighters. I am sure they serve us well.

Fourth why does a ladder truck have to carry the jaws for car wrecks? Just curious why they will not work on another truck.

Fifth What happened to the station on the other side of the tracks that use to be used for emergency equipment? It was still there last time i drove by.

My last point is i am curious of what percentage of dollars we lost at the city by not collecting income taxes or hiring a outside company to collect them for us. I am sure it was not free.

I am not arguing the fact of some needed improvements but the city needs to show the citizens of this community how to manage better.

I do realize Marysville is not the only city in Ohio to tax residents that work outside the city. All taxes are a pain, but you know what...I still pay them! I am complaining about this for the same reasons that have been stated. The whole purpose (as I understand) of the increase was to build a firehouse and hire additional firemen to staff...so it didn't pass...and now there are 20 things that the Mayor claims need to be cut due to the failure. What gives?

Ever wondered why the marysville fire department runs one of there ladder aerials on every run? This is the most expensive piece of equipment in the department and we use it for every run and occasionally to get groceries. What use do you have for a aerial ladder for a car wreck? I agree with alot of others here. Clean your own house up before telling me to clean mine.
too dumb get your facts straight they dont take the ladder on every run, if you have questions about how they run their dept just go and ask and stop putting things on here that arent true.

I too grew up in Marysville...actually for over 20 years. SO I know exactly how it is. Dont act like things arent going down hill. They are. Specially when you have a JUDGES daughter get busted for heroin in the last month or so. You and me may be one of the lucky ones that were into sports and not into drugs...but let me tell you something...it isnt all the parents faults. I teach my daughter values...but peer pressure is a real thing. And Marysville has changed for the worse. I dont live in Columbus City School district and my child would never go there either. BUT when you have a country city like Marysville that is changing so drastically and laws that are not being enforced or punished the way they should...you will have people dying of horrible illegal causes or children getting busted for every type of drug. Marysville is horrible unless you keep your child sheltered and even then when they hit 18 they are going to go wild. SO dont act like things are just great there. Check out the numbers from 10 years ago til now...they are going down hill fast. And only the BLIND people that just shut their eyes and think it will go away are making it worse....if you are still there....GOOD LUCK. And considering there is a bar on almost EVERY corner of that place or an establishment that sells it...no wonder the DUI numbers have gone up too.

A typical Marysville tactic...threaten the cuts...same thing we went through for the school levy.

ShortStuff...'They serve 82 square miles and 300k people"
Where do you get a number like 300K?

disgruntled citizen..."Marysville is growing so much what are you doing with the extra tax from all these individuals moving into the area?"
You got that correct. You have to wonder...Before Mill Valley went in there was nothing there but a huge farm field. I got to figure the city is pulling in more in taxes now with all the housing that is there now then they did when it was growing produce.

The huge amount of retail, and the tax breaks afforded to them,is/are what is killing us.

First thing-- I graduated from Marysville. I never drank, I never did drugs. I knew people who did. If I'd wanted to, I could have easily. I was in several clubs, student council, and I played sports. I never had an issue. I attended college, and I'm now a paramedic and a firefighter (not for Marysville). There needs to be better parenting. Know your child's friends, and know where they are. That's what my parents did, and here I am. I'm a productive "non-lazy" member of society. There were scummy people when I went there, and they're still there. They're everywhere. Look at Columbus and their schools-- Are you kidding me? Look at THEIR drug problems and graduation rates!!! Where in Columbus can you leave your doors unlocked and not have an issue? The bottom line is-- The world is a dangerous place. Where there aren't drugs, you need to look closer because they're just better at hiding it.
<quoted text>
It is because you don't see what else is going on. The fire department is VERY busy, and VERY understaffed. A lot of times, they can't spare apparatus. They serve 82 square miles and 300k people (in addition to mutual aid, when another department needs help) with a daily staff of 8-10 firefighter/paramedics. Since when does only one emergency happen at a time? There can be several incidents happening at once.
As for the purchase of the ladder, it was funded by a grant, and REPLACED A 32 YEAR OLD TRUCK. I don't think that's very selfish, do you? They waited to recieve a free truck instead of requiring the City of Marysville to purchase the $675k truck. And fyi-- How many hands do you want on your or your family members to get you out of a car after a car accident? It takes more than just two, who staff the medic. What if you need cut out of your car? Who is going to do that? Also, do you want a car of some idiot who is running late and disregarding the emergency happening in front of them, trying to pass through the scene to hit or injure you/your family/those who are caring for you? There is an entire class on how to position fire apparatus to PROTECT those on scene.
As for them going to the store, I must revert back to "Since when does only one emergency happen at a time." What if everyone else in the station is on a run except for the ladder? "Send someone by themselves in a car." Then they don't meet minimum staffing requirements and can't respond to an emergency. How upset would you be if it took 10 extra minutes for them to get to your emergency because they had to respond to the grocery store to pick up their crewmember, then head out to the run?
Contrary to popular belief, firefighters and paramedics are highly trained individuals who work very hard for a living, and don't go about their day kicked back in a recliner. They are on duty for an exhausting 24 hours at a time. You can't ask the community to only call between certain hours, or to call back at the end of lunchtime.
First I believe fireman are heroes. But I take issue with your "exhausting 24 hour schedule". Most of the time it is a matter of passing time. But my hat is off to them for the times they do serve the community.

Daily Horoscope for December 22

Sagittarius

Be careful about what you eat and drink today, my prancing Archer. Your body is in a sensitive state, so be well advised and steer clear of anything that might upset you, or to which you're sometimes allergic. Avoid anyone who's a one-man germ factory, in case a few bugs happen to jump out and over to you. Right now, you could do without it.
