Chica wrote: How are they going to be able to repay $25,000 or more in two years? That's laughable. Even if these women have excellent jobs, which I doubt, it's pretty hard to set aside ten grand a year to pay your debts. And then the government is willing to let them go back on the program if they make good? For what? So they can steal more money from honest working people? What a load of Sh!t. By your statement I am guessing you have never had an "excellent job". I have what I consider a pretty good job and have been setting aside more than $10,000 a year in savings and investments for several years. It isn't hard as long as you keep yourself debt free, obtain a good education, and work hard.

Do you really think these loosers, that take illegal welfare, are in the same situtation as you??? Do you think these winners with such high integrity keep themselves out of debt, obtain good eductions, and WORK HARD??? Get a clue.

People need to start reporting fraud. If you know it is happening do something about it.

Makes You Wonder wrote: People need to start reporting fraud. If you know it is happening do something about it. Did you know that 19 out of every 100 New Mexicans are on welfare? If it were only that easy. Usually the ones who really know who is and who isn't and who deserves it legally are often illegal and don't qualify themselves, given all the correct documentation and qualifications. You have to qualify. Not have the correct phoney baloney paperwork that no one checks for accuracy. Did you know that 19 out of every 100 New Mexicans are on welfare? Two weeks ago, on a whim, I started checking what it takes to get on welfare. I was amazed that I found it complicated. You can actually do it on-line. I gave up on it. But I learned something or two. Many people don't think it's hard at all. They find it a challenge to be met. Crafty welfare magicians seem to know how to do it blindfolded. Did you know that 19 out of every 100 New Mexicans are on welfare? And we're not even near high-man on the totem pole.

I am a Single mother who works full-time and goes to school full-time. The only form of income I have is my pay check. Every time I have applied for assistance it has been denied. I do everything I can to make sure my child and I have what we need, but it's very hard. I work at a convienience store and it kills me when someone comes in and uses their EBT card on candy/chips/soda/junk and their cash assistance on beer/alcohol/ciggs/glass roses (to smoke their crack)/blunt raps (to smoke their weed). if I had any of the money I would being buying real food to COOK with. But instead these druggies are using it for their munchies and bad habits. We really need to make these people get jobs. We also need to start drug testing them. It's not fair.

Is it any wonder why so many pregnant illegals come to to the land of freebies? They get free prenatal care, free birth & delivery and then free assistance and when their kids are older they get free education to go along with free housing. These 2 women, legal or not, are just a drop in the bucket of all the fraud going on with all the state/federal agencies.

Why aren't you getting loans from school? You can get over $7000 a semester, which would be plenty for you to get and use for you and one child? Even though you would have to pay them back, as long as your degree isn't a wishing degree, then there should be no problem and you could live off of your loans. I know I did when I went to school in Albuquerque.

The more people in the system equals more staff to take care of the cases. I had a friend that use to find (a whole bunch of) fraud files and pass them to the supervisor. They made her quit doing that because they did not want to loose any power they had by having fewer cases. There is fraud and deciet in every department in the NM state government. These two bums in this story are just small flies on a big steamy pile of ****. You are an idiot and your friend as well, come work at the office and see what we really do, we do not by any means do this, if we as case workers want to find someone that is defrauding the system there has to be hard evidence against them and we have to be able to show this when sent up for investigation, and if I am correct we have less staff now then before when your "friend" worked there, we are working with half the staff we had years ago, so please keep your idiotic comments to yourself until you have either worked in our shoes and now for a cold hard fact that this is happening, it is people like you who spread this rumors and pass along all the wrong information the public so please next time please do us all a favor and keep your lies to yourself and don't waste our time.

My friend worked for the ISD is Albuquerque and literally had 800 plus clients causing her job to be very demanding because there was NO HELP!!! Some people who have no idea should keep quiet. I do not think that people realize this job is a 4 year degree required education, one which many or most people who are talking their talk could never walk the walk of a social worker or case worker.

I know of people who used the system to help them get through college and now have great jobs, but the ones who have brand name shoes and clothes, and more should be looked into. At the same time, they can say it was given to me like the ones who drive expensive vehicles that are not in their name. Being on the system doesn't hardly bring in enough money to live off of, so, there has to be illegal things going on. 400 dollars a month doesn't pay for a nice house, nice vehicle, nice clothes for three people, plus cell, utilities, gas, insurance for the vehicle, and more! Even living with someone doesn't do it. I just don't get it at all. Anyone knows how they do it?

They might get $400 a month cash, but they also get food stamps, free housing, reduced or free utilities, free school lunches for all their kids, big IRS tax rebates, and I'm sure there is more that I'm not mentioning. One "smart" politcian said one time, that the free housing should be like military bunks, and the free food should be for staples (rice, beens, potatoes, ect), not luxery food. Also, they should have to do some sort of job for the cash they recieve, even if it is "demeaning" to them...pick up trash, water city plants, etc. They should also have to take a drug test to keep their "demeaning job". I just don't understand why people (unless they are truely mentally or physically handicap) get all this free stuff just because they have kids or are going to college. Give me a break. I don't mind helping the mentally & physically hanicap, or someone going through a few bad months...but this whole system is a mess and is completely abused. It's very frusterating.

Thank you finally someone who knows what I am talking about! About a year ago we all were having to control a caseload of 900 it is insane to think of all the work we do and then to have a person say that we contribute to people who lie especially to get assistance, we do our job to the best of our ability with what we have! And yes it is very frustrating every day we can see that a person is lying but proving it is a different story!

So, if there's any question that a person is lying to get welfare they don't "deserve", the suspision is ignored and they get what they want? What do they lie about that you can't check into?

We forwarded any suspicious cases up to our fraud unit and they are the ones who determine that, and no we do not ignore it but our hands are tied, you tell me how are we suppose to investigate this while running half staff and our office over flowing with work? When you can answer that let us know better yet you should then run for governor or president cause you would then have all the right answers.
