Well...let's see....Are we really calling out Barry Gordon,Ed Bell, and John Tuck? It seems to me that the "Good Ole Boy" system seems to be a little miffed...because maybe I don't know they didn't think of it!! These are very educated and good men....Can we say that for some of the great politicians and law enforcement in this county. I guarantee that I know one HIGH ranking official who might be build a liquor store.....but only after these guys take the heat for awhile.

Amen, people are just extremely jealous of any men in this town that make something for themselves. They are jealous of power and success (personally I think it has always been that way). They don't want anyone to have more then they have, so they try and run them into the groung. You go Barry, Ed, and John!!!!!

You are right that those 3 men aren't part of the good ole boy political heirarchy in Loudon County. I would happily trade Guider, Arp, Brookshire, and the county school board for them.

He has taken care of my pets for years and he doesn't over-charge like some of the vets around here. Ed Bell has been a part of the community for years and has given back more than he has ever taken. I don't know the Tuck fellow. Everyone knows what Guider (Aikens, Russ Johnson & certain judges) have done to our law enforcement reputation in the county by their selfishisness, dishonesty, and greed. Brookshire and crew are on target to destroy a little town that was on its way of being great. Brookshire's kid attitude is going to mess up everything. Arp messed up when he put himself above our children's education and safety.

That doesn't mean I am going to vote for the liquor stores just because I have nothing against the guys that are working to get it on the ballot for us to vote on. It did not pass the last time and I suspect it will be the same thing this time. If this thing does pass, and they do build the stores, at least our county will see the tax and not Farragut and Knox County. I guess if a person wanted to invest in the business he would have the same opportunity as they would. I still don't see it passing but there are pros and cons both ways.

I'm honestly conflicted about this issue. The last time it came up, I wrote in support of the ballot initiative. I'm not going to do that this time because the truth is that I just don't know how I'll vote.
On the 'anti' side, I understand the arguments both ways. Will local sales of packaged liquor result in more consumption and all the attendant suffering that comes with increased alcohol consumption? I don't know. There is data to support both positions. All other arguments aside, I am drawn to the 'anti' argument simply because of the small town feel of the county. I adore that feel and hate things that drag the county into the metropolitan / urban crapper that other places have become.
On the 'pro' side, prohibiting the sale of a legal product because it might offend some strikes at the fiercely independent libertarian in me. I don't like government and I like it even less when its telling people that they can't do things because someone else might object. To me, in order to limit individual liberty, the government should have to carry the legal burden of proving a vital and compelling public interest. I don't think they can do that with respect to the sale of booze. If there is such a public interest, then it should be illegal - PERIOD! No matter who sells it. I am drawn to the 'pro' argument just because I think people should have power - not governments.
As far as the 'three amigos', I wouldn't know any of them if I ran over them with my car. It seems to me that business is business. They think the local market has a leak, and they're willing to invest in hanging a bucket under that leak. Its no different to me than the whole isle of cool beer in the Loudon Rite Aid (good luck trying to find a cold soda or gator aid there).
I hope smarter people than me can figure this one out.

You need to check your stats about these three men....They don't need the money. Can any of our politicians in this county say the same????? I think not...Let's see the mayor of Lenoir City is a puppet for just about anybody that will scratch his back, while the rest do I really need to go there. Dr.Gordon, Ed Bell, and John Tuck really don't need the money. They are VERY successful business men. So lets not make out to be greedy men like the ones that run this county.

If we're talking about motives, then "Greed" and "Need" are certainly not the same thing. A lot of people who "don't need the money" are out there chasing it anyway. John Gotti didn't need any more money - but was willing to kill for it.
