First of all I called you no names and was being polite. You however as a good concerned Christian you chose to be an asshole. The Shriners at the Rizpah Temple hold a Texas hold em tournament every year. This is advertised on the radio. It is also policed by (you guessed it) the police

Your argument makes sense, but those are philanthropic events. I am sure that there are regulations that must be followed on to how much of the proceeds must be donated to charitable causes. I am sure that the people that go to those events pay an entry fee. As for the police that are there, I am sure that many are members of the Masonic Society or are Shriners themselves. Many public servants are. I highly doubt that those that attend and play make a killing and the pot size is probably pre-set to ensure that this form of legal gambling is properly administered. |

Phil is exactly right. If some of the proceeds are paid to a charitable cause, then it is legal. I believe it is determined by a percentage. More than likely most of the proceeds are donated to the Shriner's Hospital.

1 And actually you do live in a community of tight asses. If you haven't noticed, this is the bible belt. If you shoved a piece of coal up somebody's ass around here, in a week you'd have a diamond. And no matter how much you think it doesn't hurt me or others that this is happening right here in our hometowns, it does. The bottom line is that its illegal activity. What if one of our kids go down there and lose everything they have in a poker game and don't have the money to pay up? Then somebody beats the hell out of em or even worse for not paying up. It's not like the person who took em for a ride can call the police and say our kid isn't paying up so they'll usually take matters into their own hands and that can get pretty violent in places like this. Plus, you have the allegations of drugs being sold out of there. I guess as long as its not affecting me, that's okay, right? Get real. |
