Our view: Rendell's highway speeds set bad example

Full story: Public Opinion

We're sure state and local police hear it frequently after they pull over speeding motorists: "But I was just keeping up with traffic ... you know, for safety's sake." As far as traffic safety goes, that concept is debatable.

I wonder how long those Troopers would have jobs if they told the governor that they werent going to drive fast for him.....

Slow news day, Matt? Troopers speed all the time. I'd be more concerned if they were on the phone. If he was able to average 99 on the turnpike there was obviously nobody in the way to endanger.

Isn't anyone concerned about the civilian implications of this, think about it, they are using EZPASS a system used to make things easier for the driver and keep conjestion at the toll plaza down, I don;t remember them saying they were going to calculate speeds using the data gleamed from the receipts. I would not be happy if when driving home I got a ticket in the mail for "speeding". Just watch its coming. I would rather the gov. speed then try to justify using a helicopter like alot of other gov's from other states have.

that's just f*ing ridiculous...it's NOT ok for us to speed but it's PERFECTLY ok for the law enforcement officers & govt officials to speed because they're "busy people." WTF? I and most other folks are VERY busy nowadays trying to find a job and keep everything together...but we can't use that excuse the next time we're pulled over...."but officer, i'm a very busy person..."

just WTF is going on with this country? I'm glad to see people are waking up and nitpicking at the perks of govt officials and how undeserving they are of said perks...gotta shake up some changes.

Matthew Major: "First of all, the "proper speed at which to travel" on Pennsylvania roads is capped at 65 mph."

Anybody who believes that Pennsylvania's ridiculously underposted speed limits on limited access highways are related to safety, or respresent the proper speed at which to travel, just fell off the turnip truck.

Well if you speed, then you broke the law. The law is the law. If you break the law, then you should be punished. If you feel speeding shouldn't be a crime, then try to contact government officials to make speeding legal.

While I don't condone the governor running at 93 or 100 mph, the reality is that one of the biggest causes of accidents is not speed, but differences in speed. If the majority of traffic in a 55 mph zone is doing 75, it's much safer for everyone to do 75 than for one guy to be a rolling roadblock at 55!

I complained to the PSP when the first article about our speedy hypocrite run the state into the red governor was published. I received a useless reply from a PSP spokeswoman which was typical govt. BS and which greatly decreased my respect for the PSP.

Why isn't the governor's limo pulled over and the driver and/or governor ticketed and fined?

Somebody from PSP or Harrisburg show me in the State Constitution where anyone is exempt from law.

I see non-elite royalty pulled over every time I travel the mismanaged Turnpike.
