Not being racist or anything. It just seemed like there were lots of black people hanging out in downtown Royal Oak tonight. Was there a concert or something going on tonight?

Good.

Well if the cops can do their jobs right, this can work. Otherwise, if they harass the innocent blacks minding their own business, and ignore the criminals then we'll watch Royal Oak go downhill fast.

It's really REALLY easy @ the cops: You don't harass or racially profile. Because you end up hemming the system up with lawsuits, controversy, and make the city have a bad rep. Then the criminals become more active in the mess and the system becomes more corrupted.

It's not the black people that mess up a city, it's the stupid way white cops react when decent black folk are in the city.

Yeah, haven't they destroyed Detroit enough? Do they want to destroy the rest of Michigan?

Im so tired of these ugly racial slurs and negative attitudes towards we Negro Americans as a "whole". We are no different than "white" or hispanic or asian americans. No matter what group of people you come from, withen any given group you find good people and bad people. I was born here in michigan raised in small town Romeo served my country in the army for 10 years and worked for dept of defense for 10 years and I have just as much love for and just as much right to be in Royal Oak or any other American town as I see fit. I find it ironic to see so many of you talking about bad "black" people messing things up when on any given weekend I see just as many "white" people stumbling around drunk, drunk driving, raising hell and I certainly see just as many "white" people in the news for the same types of crimes that "black" people commit. Its not a black, white, hispanic or asian things its a good or bad thing. Take your prejudices elsewhere!!! 21st Century America,Michigan and the World have no room for your old world narrow mindedness! God bless America and Michigan my beloved Wolverine State! Yes...I am HERE I have Always been HERE and I will always BE HERE(Michigan). My family has been here as long as most white family, over 150 years so like the other person commited..we belong here, we are never leaving and if you don't like YOU leave and take your ugliness with you

I am not so concerned about any specific ethnicity as I am concerned with the thugs coming into town,(from Detroit and the East side it seems) crapping all over the streets and going back home to a cities they have already ruined ( because they do not pay taxes here). Not sure why but there have been disproportionate increases in crime around specifically the Emagine Theater and LA Fitness. These are both new establishments that may be bringing in the wrong kind of crowd ( for what ever reason). See crime updates below:

http://www.ci.royal-oak.mi.us/portal/departme...

My concern is that if this keeps up all the business in town will go under, property values will plung and nobody will have downtown Royal Oak to enjoy.

The property values still seem to be going up more than in any other area. I think we all need to be active and give our Police the support they need- call in any suspicious people and ask them what they are doing if they are in a place that they shoulldn't be (like on your neighbors property). This might even be a tax increase but I would be Ok with that. Works for Birmingham....

Check out the prices for homes. They still average more than $200k it looks.

Just can't let people who don't take care of their homes or community get into the neighborhood. That's when it gets bad.

I understand that what you said is what you'd like to believe but, if you're honest, you can admit to at least yourself that the reputation of Detroit black folk is well earned. You've served, I served, so we've seen other parts of the world and know it's not like this everywhere else. I've never encountered the attitudes that I have here. My issue with "black flight" to Royal Oak is...and you watch...it will change the city and not for the good. Went down last weekend and had to deal with the hip hop blasting out of cars (driven by adult men, btw) groups of black young men with the whole "pants on the ground" thing and black women that , had they been white, you and I both would have referred to them as trailer trash. And they're going into nice restaurants dressed that way, talking loudly to their girls on the phone at the bar etc. Disruptive, not a cultural fit, insert your adjective here. Maybe the white kids who grew up in the hip hop culture and who enjoy a limited vocabulary, grade school manners and street level sensibilities will stay. But the establishments will morph to accommodate them and I don't choose to spend my leisure time with this group. I don't have anything in common with them and, yes, I'll leave. Enjoy what's left when I (and others like me, whose taste and spending habits helped build RO) leave.

I'll say what everyone else is thinking... This influx of black people into Royal Oak is ruining the city. They're all over the place loitering on the streets and sitting on corners. I really think its because of the theater and that's bringing them all to town. Whatever the reason, it's going to be the downfall of RO. If there's thugs "chillin" on every corner people from other areas are going to stop coming and then the city slowly turns into Southfield or Oak Park.

I'm a black female and I hang out in Royal Oak and I've never seen any problems when I'm there. I see more black people than I use to, but it seems to be working out pretty well. Why are so many people so hateful? I work everyday, pay my bills, pay taxes and I am college educated. I'm not violent, I've never stolen anything and I hate violence and ghetto behavior just like the bigots on the website. Why not judge people by their individual actions?

If it looks like a duck and walks like a duck, it sure as hell is a duck.

Has it ever occurred to you so called decent blacks to attack the ones giving you a bad name (like your thieving bros and sisters) you come into the nice communities with such arrogant attitudes and soon after wards the craps follows you (how the hell do you expect decent white folks to tell the difference between the good bad and ugly?

If you would have made/kept Detroit a great city as it once was, you would have earned RESPECT!!! so stay in Detroit and clean it up and make an effort to earn respect by your action and not your boot mouth. Grrrrr

Since emagine theater has went in its become a total ghetto atmosphere. I want my city to be the way it used to be. I cannot believe the city of royal oak allowed this mega theater to go in. Its all about big business and money to them. I assure you, it will backfire in there faces. The type of clientele that this theater is attracting is inner city thugs that use their welfare money to go to the movies. When the palladium in birmingham went in they had the same problem. How did they fix their issue? They got the cops out there to control the animals loitering on the streets and pretty much made it intolerable for them to chill all over the streets. I dont live in downtown detroit for a reason, because of all this crap. get em out.

I had an african american woman (and I use that term lightly) threaten to pull a gun on me last summer in the Emagine parking lot. I will not be going back. Pathetic.

I went to the Emagine theater in Novi and its just as bad if not worse than Royal Oak. Because of the Section 8 and depreciated home costs since the 2007 mortgage crisis/NINJA loans, Blacks are moving in and breeding at an exponential rate due to being on the gubbmint dole. Novi, Royal Oak, and Auburn Hills did not have any of these problems 10 years ago. I just moved to the Treasure Coast in Florida and Blacks are starting to move out here as well. Its very sad what has happened to this country in so many ways.

They completely ruined Detroit and turned it into a stinking cesspool. It was once the most prosperous big city in the USA. Now it's a national embarassment. Tell them to stay in Detroit. It's how they made it. Let them enjoy the fruits of their labor.
