The author of this article is incorrect about diseases being spread by bedbugs. There is no proof or document cases of bedbugs spreading disease.

the student says she was sick of the bedbugs. this tells me she must have done this after telling someone that decided not to do anything about it. The students in the ICC are suppose to be the smartest of the bunch.

A question that needs to be answered is if the BoH did inspection before the University bought the place.
At any rate, this will probably cost the school some money to cleanup.

FactCheck wrote: The author of this article is incorrect about diseases being spread by bedbugs. There is no proof or document cases of bedbugs spreading disease. You are correct: At least 27 agents of human disease have been found in bed bugs, including viruses, bacteria, protozoa, and parasitic worms. None of these agents reproduce or multiply within bed bugs, and very few survive for any length of time inside a bed bug. There is no evidence that bed bugs are involved in the transmission (via bite or infected feces) of any disease agent, including hepatitis B virus and HIV, the virus that causes AIDS.

From a 5 star hotel to UMASS Lowell. Sounds like they pay the bed bug wranglers pretty well at UMASS. Come to think of it the head insect is also doing ok. I guess this must be a good use of taxpayer money, running an Inn with bed bugs. FYI, Lenzi's has no bed bugs but they have the best chicken pie in Greater lowell.

I would not want to be head of any facility which caters to "transient populations" of any kind, be they 5 star hotels or the local drunk shelter. "You can have the bed, Otis (the drunk), but you might be a bit itchy for the next few weeks...." seeing a full engorged BB (on donor blood) is a fearsome thing and I wouldn't wish that on anyone (even Marty) bring back DDT

Do your homework on bed bugs. They are impossible for any establishment to keep out completely once people start coming and going. I'm assuming the place was bug-free when UML got the building (since they need human hosts to live on). Bed bugs travel in people's luggage and furniture very easily. This is why they are cropping up everywhere. Doesn't matter how clean the building is, if someone brings them in and has a cluttered room, they will live and proliferate.

The more foreigners we have allowed into the country (including the illegals we don't round up)the more disease and bug problems we have. Leprosy is back.
Most teenagers are filthy and it too adds to the problem. Inspect the dorms and if they are dirty throw the kids out.

A bed bug can actually survive for 1 year without a meal. It could be possible they were already there. It was a hotel afterall.

The culprit here is this girl who stupidly dragged her infested bed into the hallway, potentially spreading it everywhere. She is probabley the one who bought the bedbugs in, and is trying to blame to hotel. I'm betting money she is not the most popular girl for that one. Good, maybe she'll move out and stop blaming her infestations on everyone else.
To Nancy who blames bedbugs on foreigners....you're ignorant. Its people like you who give the area a bad reputation. Keep your Masshole redneck racist remarks to yourself.

I live in that dorm, and its fine for the most part. Not sure who this girl is, but the rumor is that she got in trouble for pushing her bedbuggy matress in the hall, because it could have infested other rooms. She was upset at being written up, so tried to get revenge by reporting the dorm to papers. Obviously she belongs back in 2st grade. If I get bedbugs, I'm blaming her, not the dorm. Someone posted that there is no way you can prevent them, as they travel on people. Its been her bed and her bed only, so they are her bugs!! Gross. Also, ain't much going on in Lowell these days to report if friggin bedbugs is all you have to sensationalize!!??

When someone makes fun of others it is usually because they are covering up their own shortcomings. So you Ron must smell like a whale carcass that has been sitting in the hot sun for three months.
