I have actually asked that question as well, because it is very concerning when it says "May"....I am told it will be discussed at the special town meeting but it is the legal language they went with. I don't like that line either." My take: Personally, I think they SHOULD be discussing that question IN ADVANCE of STM. Any "regular" attendee of the historically dismally attended Town Meetings KNOWS that when a controversial issue is on the warrant and you have a CROWD of worked up people MANY of whom never attend TM nor have ANY CLUE of the protocol/procedure of this event....what you end up with is a giant cluster-**** of confusion! As I've said before, we are being asked to VOTE ON what's IN the warrant article, that being legally bin Town ding, not what has been said at committee meetings. IMO, to leave this issue up to the last minute on town meeting floor is a POOR DECISION by the HSBC and does not bode well for their cause. You are right. By the time we go to Town Meeting next week, there will be so much babbling.. people needing to "talk" rather than communicate. So here is where we can make a difference, rather than waiting for the CROWD mess you describe at Meetings (you are right, btw..) Send an email and ask for clarification. I also want to know what will be done to manage the project and avoid cost overruns:: newtmhs@gmail.com

Observer wrote: <quoted text> WOW the parents that I talk to say quite a different story about their children's supposed academic success, perhaps not all the students are doing as well as you think. The teachers that I know of and have dealt with need to find other occupations THEY ARE FAILING OUR CHILDREN. It was in the paper a few months ago that 95-96% passed the MCAS, and these parents you mention that have a different story about their children's academic success, maybe their children are the small percentage that did not pass the MCAS and thats not the teachers faults. With such a high number passing, that is the proof that they are doing their jobs!!! Look up the article yourself, the numbers do not lie. There is a culture today of blaming everything on the teachers and having it so that students/parents have absolutely no accountability whatsoever. If a student goes to school, or chooses to skip all of the time, not pay attention, not do classwork/homework, meanwhile the parent does nothing about it, it is their own fault not the teachers.

Let's just say I know alot more than I can write here. Do you realize that the schools are teaching for the kids to pass MCAS, the study guides, the assistance in taking the tests... You are correct that we as a society have no accountablilty. BUT NOT EVERY FAILING CHILD HAS PARENTS THAT DON'T CARE, THERE ARE ALOT OF US THAT ARE TRYING TO WORK WITH THE SCHOOL SYSTEM. The spedpac is no longer thanks to the school admin, parents are moving, parents are suing, parents are hiring tutors, parents are hiring advocates...
Numbers can also be falsified, do not believe everything you hear or read in today's society. The numbers considered for passing are in the 25th percentile or over. Do you consider a 25 a good grade? Learned this from my advocate, I always thought when they said passing it meant 65 or better. The town of tewksburysays when your child does 25 or better on testing they consider them passing. What a shocker to everyone that I have told this too. So for years I bought into your son is passing because I never saw actual numbers on their special tests, they did this to avoid helping him. So better late than never my wife hired an advocate, and a tutor. He is finally on his way to learning to read properly. 7th grader at a 3rd grade level. And we work diligently at home with him. So this set of parents DO something about it, and know fully where the blame lies.
