Police: Man's honesty lands him behind bars

Full story: Lowell Sun

Things don't always go this smoothly. Detectives Peter Kelleher and Tong Phay stopped Jeremy Farinha, 28, of Lowell, as he drove on Andover Street Sunday afternoon, asked him if he had any weapons on him, and ...

"Police say the initial traffic stop was made because Farinha was acting suspiciously, and that he appeared nervous once he was stopped."

case will be dropped.

This headline is misleading. The man was not arrested for being honest but because he was carrying a gun without a license.

Such a headline only invites cynicism and resentment. It should be retracted.

This bastard robs his neighbors then set his own car on fire!!! To allude cops from what he really did. The neighbor who was robbed moved out the same day. You think I'm kidding!!! Look back in Junes article you remember the car that was set on fire yeah same guy.

Another self pity I got a drug problem crackhead. He's giving way to many chances. And If he was a "legal" immigrant. Deport him!!! yeah we heard that before...

If you're driving and acting suspiciously that gives the police every right in the world to pull you over. It's like waving a big red flag and saying "pick me, pick me." Protect and serve. They were just doing their job.

Anything out of the normal realm. For instance, a friend of mine got stopped just for playing air drums on his steering wheel and since he didn't have at least one hand on the wheel he got stopped. Other than that he just got detained once they determined everything was ok, they let him go. Good lesson: when you're driving you just might want to stay under the radar. You don't want to attract any uneeded attention. Driving is a privelage, not a right.
Like I said before, they were doing their job:protect and serve.

I have never been arrested, but had a few dealings with the police, and if there's one thing I learned it's NEVER tell them the truth, they will spin it around and screw you.

Out of the normal realm.....
so in Lowell that means I'd better start running red lights, talking on my cell phone and not using my directional....that all seems to be the "normal realm".
I think "acting suspiciously" gets very subjective- if they pull one guy over for something ang they never pull anyone else over for the same thing doesn't it make you wonder?
So they lump it all as "suspicous"
Ya I know driving is a privelege, so I should alway expect to get pulled over on a police officer's whim. If I wasn't doing anything wrong what do I have to worry about.....-mostly my civil rights.

First of all, where have you been LHS mom???

Second of all, I suspect that cops pulling people over for "acting suspicious" is a common thing in Lowell. My brother-in-law who decided for some strange reason to buy a tricked out Civic earlier in the year has been pulled over twice since then for no reason. He is hispanic and is often blasting hip hop music, so that is probably the reason there. I bought him a bumper sticker that says "My heart belongs to Jesus!!" I told him that if he puts that on his car, cops will leave him alone. Or next time he should buy a Yaris or something Yaris-esque.

Daily Horoscope for June 2

Gemini

You're in a warm-hearted and generous mood today, especially when dealing with loved ones and members of the family. You want to give them as much of your time as possible, and also to do anything else that will keep them happy. The only snag will come if you're trying to spread yourself too thin and you end up making promises that will be difficult, if not impossible, to keep. You may forget all about them but other people won't.
