As former US Navy I find Obama stance on allowing gays in the military quite disturbing. You have all types of people coming into boot camp, youths of 17 years old right out of high school to former criminals whose last chance is the miltary or back into prison etc. I personally want to know wth the military will do if you have another guy who is sexually attracted to other men and showering with them, please remember that if this comes to pass it will change our military radically, as even sexual criminals will be allowed to join the military. As a carrer man I truly find it hard to belive that Obama can take this stand, it is detrimental to the security of this nation. Open gays in the military will be a totally divisive factor and it will open a can of worms. You have no idea what this will cause. One of many reasons why you cannot vote for Obama.
Repeal Don't-Ask-Don't-Tell Obama believes we need to repeal the "don't ask, don't tell" policy in consultation with military commanders. The key test for military service should be patriotism, a sense of duty, and a willingness to serve. Obama will work with military leaders to repeal the current policy and ensure we accomplish our national defense goals.

What happens when they live and shower with other men?

It will disrupt unit coherent. Unit coherent makes up a fighting force. This is why women are not aloud in combat arms units in the Army.

Why shouldn't gay people be allowed to serve in the military? Your reasoning sounds like homophobia. And are you insinuating that gay people are sexual criminals? What do sexual criminals even have to do with gay people or the military?? And yes, gay people are already serving. This won't really change anything except that gay people will be able to be open about it if they choose. That however does not mean that suddenly they will be hitting on you in the shower..Sheesh! It's comments like this that are just completely ignorant..as if gay men have no control and go around accosting every man they see.

They are willing to fight and die for their country and this guy is worried about awkward glances in the shower.

Units will be deeply affected and unit morale will be in question. Is this something that your willing to sacrifice? it will adversely affect your safety? You are talking about a sexual nature here, and would you take a shower with a gay man or woman? self control is not the question here!

They are attracted to other gay people, not straight people. You have straight men in the service who rape women, but I suppose that's okay?

I have been present at many discharge hearings and I have heard it all, I even heard a gay man tell an admiral that he was gay, the admiral asked him why he should believe him, are you attracted to me, and the gay man said "no, your not my type". The ship that this individual came from (tin can) would have deep sixed this guy no doubt since he was openly gay. Regardless of whether this guy was a good soldier, the shipd integrity was now in question as 95%+ of the crew will not fight with this guy. Unless your willing to have a "gay military only" this is not a good idea. It will have a disastrous effect on recruiting, which already is hard since parts of the country undeserving of any military protection do not let the military receuit in their districts. I truly think this is the downfall of America with this Obama guy.
