we got our cat from the greater lowell humane society, she was about 2 years old and is without a doubt the most loving cat we have ever had. so when you go to adopt, look at older pets too, not just kittens and puppys.

All my "4 legged kids" have come from a shelter.

They love you, no matter what---and you instantly fall in love with them.

My latest boy was adopted at age 4--a short leg Jack Russell. He is my first small boy (having already raised a German Shepard and various Labs) and without a doubt, he is a total hoot.

For the life of me I will never understand how so many people will pay huge amounts of money for pure breeds or designer breeds when there are so many animals that need good homes

I would love to open my house and heart to another animal, but would typically go through craigslist, or look through signs at the local pet store. The adoption fees are crazy, free pets need good homes too.

I agree that free pets need homes as well, but your "free" pet comes with the price tag for the spay/neuter,vaccinations,testi ng for Heartworm in dogs or FELV/FIV in cats.
Shelters provide the intital vaccinations and everything mentioned above PLUS microchipping and registration. That's gonna cost you $400 plus at the vet.
Besides, you don't know the history of animals you're getting on craigslist. Often people are getting rid of an animal for a reason and sadly their not honest about it, then your stuck with an issue you aren't able to handle.

Your right about fee's. the cost is small when you compare it to what you would have to pay at the vets to get the spay/neuter and vaccinations done. I bought a dog from a breeder, I have terrible allergies so I went with a pure bred Shih Tzu and couldn't find any at the shelters at the time. It cost me $350 to spay her and I forget how much more for her vaccinations, I know the bill was over $700.00 for the first year. That was 10 years ago, I'm sure it is much more now.

Daily Horoscope for December 28

Taurus

If you've been neglecting that special someone in your life over the past few days because you've been so busy with the festivities, try to make up for it today. Maybe you could have some time alone with them, or perhaps you simply need to remind them how much you love them. Don't be afraid to open up your heart to them, and to let them do the same to you.
