Fill it with something. Manure, cottonseed waste, broken block, river rocks are all something that will hold it stable and not endanger the businesses and residents. Oh, wait! That'd be logical!*snicker*

Perhaps I am missing something here, but nowhere in this article does it say anything about getting the @#$%^& fixed before someone falls into it ;(. It is all about the money, which is understandable, but what about getting it done before someone gets hurt???

that's friggin scary.. i hope to God i'm not working the day it collapses, cuz i work in a building right on canal street. even though we do have the emergency alert system, it could happen all in one big wham, and we wouldn't have time for the alert to go out, we'd be fallin' in!!! ugh, geeze that's so scary.. hope they're able to fix it!!!!

Manure, cootonseed waste -- wow both of those will produce combustible gas. So, instead of a collapse we can have an explosion. Boken blocks will not seal of the periphery of the cavern from further erosion, there will have to be some sort of sealing of the cavern as well as filling it up.

I agree with Townie. When are the owners of the property going to grow a conscience, instead of playing the victim? They are the responsible party, when are they going to step up to the plate and take accountability...they do after all own it, and profited off of it for years.

The sky is falling, the sky is falling! It's a toss up to see if the Commision or the city buys the greatly devalued land in that area.

It sounds like the city council finally figured out which is cheaper in the long run. The amount of money it would cost to fix the problem, or the amount of money it would cost in lawsuits if it did collapse. It is sad but, preserving human life is not as important as saving/making money for some people.

Now is the time to get busy on the Loop Road construction, and all of those potash mine tailings start dumping them into the sinkhole, the railroad tracks are right there, it shouldn’t be that big of a deal.

Are you sure it wasn't a fart coming out ? Just joking Seriously I was on it today twice and did not feel a thing...They are suppose to have emergency alarms go off if there is any movement from what I have heard... Do you have to drive that way on a daily basics ? I DON'T blame you for the worry of what might happen someday if something is NOT done soon...

We might as well give this future sink hole a name. I vote for "the money pit".

I work at the Western Commerce Bank building just past the 'Y', and end up driving over that intersection 6-8 times a day. Looking out of our door is the capped wells, just across from the trailer park... and I have to tell you, there is something unsettling about working over an area of the sink hole that they have no idea if/when it will collapse.

This is a good article concerning the sinkhole: www.mysuncoast.com/Global/story.asp...

I don't know if that link is working, but if not, on the black line at the top of the topix - click on home, and it is the first article that is listed;

NM city prepares for salt cavern collapse

I like that they have talked to some of the people involved that are living and working near the sinkhole.

I second the motion, done did...It is now to be refereed to as the " money pity" good one...I'm also sure they will find a way to pass the cost on to the hard working Joe... So start saving your money...
