PFLAG chapter hosts gay pride picnic today

When my partner and I moved from Northern Virginia to Carlsbad four years ago, there was some concern as to how we would be accepted in such a small, isolated community. Not to worry. More quickly than we could have believed, we found ourselves welcome everywhere. To our neighbors we were just the guys next door, best known for being the first house to hit when the kids had stuff to sell for various school fund raisers.
We recently (and reluctantly) moved back to Virginia, but enjoy keeping up with the goings-on back in Carlsbad. We wish the new PFLAG chapter well, and are confident that the various and generally incomprehensible letters condemning them represent a vitriolic but not especially intelligent minority.
As for the religious aspect, I have a delicious anecdote courtesy of a good friend who recently visited a historic church in North Carolina. The discussion with the guide turned to the division in some churches over the issue of homosexuals. The guide said her congregation decided that the name of their church - "All Souls" - meant just that, and the issue was closed.
Life can be simple, if we let it.

I do not think that it is right to be gay. There were comments that this person who is gay CHOOSES to be gay. Being gay is a lifestyle choice. I do not think that there needs to be a BBQ to show you are gay. Due to NEXT on MTV that show gays on there I had to block it from my tv from my children. There is no such thing as the same sex having true sex. Sex is between a man and a woman, not woman to woman or man to man. People can change their ways. Gays obviously or bored with their life and need to do something to be attracted to the other sex instead of being rebellious. The BBQ needs to happen in the middle of no where, where no one can be seen of the same sex kissing, sitting on one another, being "loving" towards one another as if they are heterosexual. Society has accepted a way of life that should not be accepted. Sex is to procreate, not do something that should not be done. People who are gay need to stay home and out of the view of public. A preacher told me that being gay is just a phase that the person can change. He knew of a few gay men who changed and finally said it was a phase and still to this day cannot beleive why they did another man when a woman does what a man cannot. People need to get their priorities straight..literally.

As an American, I applaud your First Amendment right to free speech.

The First Amendment also guarantees your right to gather--All of us Homosapiens have a right to gather just about anywhere.

That's the beauty of living in our country. We are all free.

The thing is that they have a reason to not be able to get pregnant. They are still having TRUE sex. Two gays cannot get pregnant together...naturally. Like I said two gays are not having true sex...just think they can.

as for judging. we do not like rapists, murderers, child molesters, NOTHING like that for which is not normal. Being gay is not normal. and about the men and women who cannot have kids, what does going without sex have to do with anything. Like I said sex is between a man and a woman, not two gay people.

see the U.S. is in the state of hypocracy. Why? On our money it says in God we trust and when we testify in court it says we have to testify under oath. But when the government does not go by God's word as an eye for an eye, and allows for murders, rapists and so forth to live then they are not true to their words. The same goes for being gay. God does not believe in it, and he does not believe in religion. He simply stated to follow his book, his word. Being gay is not following his word. Just like most religions do not follow his words. Many break the ten commandments. Anyone can use love thy neighbor and blah, blah, blah, BUT we do not need to associate with a neighbor who goes against God's word. Sooo, if you have a neighbor who has killed, raped, molested or anything else or one is gay...just ignore them for they are living in the world of Satan.

This is a disgusting topic. Why can't men like that just find a nice girl and settle down and raise a family? The same goes for the women like that, they should find nice boys to settle down with.

I think you must be the one bored with your life that you had to take time out of your day to worry about people you don't even know!!! WHO CARES what others do. This isn't a gay sex fest. Ignorance is an awful thing. Do you even know what PLAG is and what it is about? Do you honestly believe millions of people wanted this as there lifestyle?? Give me break! Why do people keep leaving out "judge not lest ye be judged?" That one actually came out of Jesus' mouth. The whole problem with taking things out of context, not studying the original translations, and assuming you have it all figured out is that you overlay your own personal beliefs onto the matter. Then you cast judgment on someone for YOUR beliefs and call them God's will, when you haven't even studied it. THE BIBLE WASN'T WRITTEN IN ENGLISH, PEOPLE!

Things are different IN THE UNITED STATES for women now. Courageous women have fought for the freedoms you now enjoy.

If you would like examples of women's social position back then, you have only to look at the Muslim countries who practise "Sharia Law."

The same is true about gays and lesbians. Attitudes are not the same in our country now. It's a different time. They live in the US, where their rights are protected, and people are punished for committing hate crimes.

I have no doubt Jesus met and accepted gays and loved them as brothers and sisters.

Remember what he said, "As you do to the least of them, you do to me."

By this, I interpret he meant, "You may think they are the least of them, but they are my brothers and sisters. They are my equals in importance. If you think it's okay to treat them cruelly, then, surely, you think it's okay to treat me cruelly."

This is the Christian walk I was taught.

I can handle what the bible says, but who are you ?? Not everyone is going to live their life through the eyes of the lord. As a matter of fact most people don't these days! I LOVE my brother was he supposed to be thrown away because he is gay??? I love him just as I would if he wasn't.
