I've been here in bridgton on and off for the last 37 years and have a piece of property thats been in my family from the 50's. Now that i'm living here full time i've noticed how many people thought i'd sell and move back to NH or california again. MY opinion is that people don't look at you as an "outsider" so much as another "mass hole" or southern transplant that will be gone in a year or two after they build a house and get sick of the bugs in the summer and snow in the winter and sell there house to go back to the city life, or an area with ALL the comforts of a codo assoc. I've had neighbors come and go, all saying they are here for the peace an quiet. I make noise, have bon fires, party with friends and hey if they don't like it they can leave(i'm not going anywhere soon) but i always invite people to my place to have a good time. Lots of trails to hike and if you ask, the signs that say "access by permission only" mean just that. All you have to do is ask. you'd be amazed how many people (locals or not)are scared to ask. I've meet plenty of people over the years at breakfast, local eaterys, bars and even walking down the back roads that have become good friends. Some are from town some are from mass, conn, even california. just like every place i've lived over the years bridgton has alot of good people but there's alot of people that should just remember it's not boston. private property is just that. 4 wheelers, hunters, hikers no problem just say hey can i go down that trail? unless your giving me an attitude or tearing up the trails, no problem. anyway thats my rant. anyone wants a beer or take a walk maybe see you around. Don't mind the target practice or bon fire it's all safe if you pay attention and know what your doing. if you don't like it sorry for the inconvience i've caused you. But i'll still be here tomorrow. will you?
