Laney is a scapegoat. How did he cause any of the problems? He has only been there one year. How are test scores under Laney? No one knows, the students haven't tested yet. He is being fired because of the incompetence of others, namely James Boggs and Cassandra Webb. Their lack of leadership put the county in this position but Boggs has retired and Webb is in the central office probably in on the decision to fire Laney. Clear out the board of education, declare the superintendent's position open and start over. A superintendent with any backbone would have defended Laney, a state with any sense would never ask for his removal. This is politics plain and simple, they already know who they want as principal at LCHS. Laney should sue and ask for Armstrong's job as part of the settlement.

We need a whistleblower

Yes anything would beat what we have. I want to know just what does the present super do for $100,000+ I have been told that his wife is at every meeting and telling everybody what to do. The law says that a spouse of principal cannot work in the same building or be under the Principals supervision. Well then tell me how that his wife can even work in the school system when he is ultimately in charge of every school? I think there should be an investigation. What else is going on that we don't know about?

What else is going on that we don't know abou I think it is obvious that the present administration is a joke. I am very concerned at the lack of fairness that is being exhibited. When a grown man can make such a scene as he did the other night and not one thing is done to reprimand him then something is wrong. Mr. Armstrong, Mr. Cook, and every board member including the criminal's wife should be held accountable for their lack of response. My son said and I quote "Mom if I had acted like that old man they would never let me in the gym again." As a parent I'm disgusted at the disgraceful example that this administration is setting for our children. I agree a whistleblower with morals needs to step in and report what is going on in this county.

You will find that most people love to complain, but will not attend the board meetings. Even if they would attend they probably wouldn't voice their opinion. What I'm trying to say is, most people like to stir the pot!

What I'm trying to say is, most people like to stir the pot! I agree with you Question. People just love to complain and stir the pot. You are absolutely wasting your time on here complaining. You never hear the good stuff going on in the district. Actually the district is working harder than they ever have. Finally the teachers are teaching and the principals are holding their teachers accountable. Our Superintendent is aware of everything that goes on in every school and is working to weed out the bad seeds. The reason why no one goes to the board meetings is because they know deep down that the administration is doing a pretty good job. The board members have been voted in to do what their districts want, and that is exactly what they are doing. The Lawrence School District is improving. People need to get over the past and look to the future because it is starting to look pretty bright and those out of power are just out of luck. Dr. Laney, I'm sure is a good man, but so is the one that is in there. He has always put the kids in this county first. He has always supported this county and our community. I defy anyone who can say otherwise. We need to quit complaining and do the right thing and get behind our Superintendent, the Board Members, the Principals, and above all the Students.

Do u all have any idea what they pay their classified employees? I have friends who have worked there 15-20 years and barely make 10 bucks per hour! That alone should tell you how they treat those employees especially when central office staff are making between 40-65 grand with the exception of the boss who is raking in over $110,000 per year.

Once again quit complaining if you wanted to make more money you should have went to college like the central office workers all did. You only deserve what you signed on to make. Don't blame those people for having more education.

I am a student of Dr. Laney and yes he would be a great Superintendent. He is a good guy and very smart. He also understands what it takes to have a successful school. I really don't see a lot of good coming from the present leadership. The present leadership has very old fashion ideas and absolutely no discipline. It really upsets me that a lot of my friends live in Lawrence County but go to other high schools. What is worse, they are the students that could bring the test scores up. All we ever hear is that Cig grant. All I see it doing is paying for teachers to go to meetings when they should be in the classroom. Three of my friends are actually doing homeschooling and they already have scholarships lined up. It makes you wonder if this system wants us to fail so they can get more money if we are unsuccessful. Yes, Dr. Laney is a good idea. Respect is missing and it is time to get it back. I would love to be proud of my school again.
