How about stop serving alcohol at 1am and closing at 2 that way the employees of the bars aren't up all night. If we are going to change the law go in that direction.

All I can think of is to give it a shot and see what happens... My concern is that of the so called Cab Companies! I have been out a few times and called a cab and never have it show up. They operators on the phone treat you like a bill collector, they want nothing to do with you. Shameful to admit, but I had to drive a little buzzed home from a wedding one night at the Ladera Golf Course to Ventana Ranch... That may be just up the road, but I still called a cab... 2 hours later I gave up on both cab companies. Granted I wasnt drunk, I am more concerned with the fact that even a little "buzz" could get me in trouble enough to lose my job, my license... Something needs to be done with these cab companies. I've been in a few cabs where the cabbies have given out their cell numbers directly to people who "TIP BIG" so they ignore regular calls to tend to them. Figure it out, cab companies!!!

Good point - but I think it's a harder sell being that it would eat into alcohol sales time. I also agree with Romero, but it's "nothing good happens after midnight".

$100 says those are the exact words that would come out of the bar owner's mouth.

I agree! That is the problem. The Mayor wants to allow people to drink till all hours, but not help them get home. It's like they want people to get drunk so the city can then fine them and take their vehicles.

Guess the mayor has never heard of last call! How many will order two or three at 2am. Either way, no one who's drunk can sober up in an hour. Marty's an idiot!

But that would hurt businesses revenue stream and city gross receipts.

Also changing the "cut-off" time would need the permission of bar owners. I bet if you take a survey of folks downtown, you won't get an agreement to the 1am cut-off time.

Don't punish the safe and responsible drinkers.

There is nothing wrong with the 3am. It allows businesses to stay open and sell water/food that can help the drunks sober up. Also the extra hour could mean extra gross receipts for the city.

REMEMBER: There is NO booze sales after 1:45am. That means patrons have at least 1 hour and 15 minutes to sober up.

This might work
-=PROVIDED=-
no drinks are allowed to be bought early and/or consumed past 2am. Clear the tables at that time of all alcoholic beverages. Then we'll see if it works or not.

So does this mean that the Rapid Ride After Dark which ceases at 2:30am will run an extra hour to 3:30am????? And this will cost how much?????

On several levels, this city has enough problems with alcohol. This is a bad idea.

First, if someone drinks until last call, they still aren't going to be sober by 3:00, unless literally, they had less than two in that time frame and didn't have ANY the entire night. Second, even if all they serve after last call is water and food, then you're just going to have a hydrated and full drunk/buzzed person. I know, we've heard it all to help us sober up... cold shower (cold drunk), exercise (sweaty drunk), coffee (wired drunk). But in reality, we don't have very much control with how fast our body eliminates the alcohol. An extra hour to stand around or dance isn't going to help much.

So you rather keep the status quo?

Currently last call is at 1:45AM. Where are the customers supposed to go after 2AM?

The Frontier is closed.

Maybe the Pita Pit moves downtown?

But don't you think stopping booze at 1:45AM with a 1hour 15 minute cooling off period with the bar closing at 3AM is BETTER than the status quo?

Currently the status quo is stopping booze at 1:45AM with a 15 minute cooling off period with the bar closing at 2AM.

Although I see your side of the argument, I don't think it will help much. I think it'll mean that some will see it as an extra extension to get their extra drink or two in before closing so their buzz won't wear off. It already happens. Right before closing, people rushing the bar for that last beer/drink. I think the extra hour will give them a reason to grab two beers instead of one. I wish I had another answer to the problems we have but I think at this point, people just need to know their limit and take turns being the designated driver. Or "take one for team" as we call it.

Daily Horoscope for December 22

Virgo

Be careful you don't wind up doing someone else's work today, Virgo. There are all sorts of little tricks to persuade you to take pity on them, from pretending to be ill to making such a hash of everything that you can't bear to watch for a moment longer. Then you are likely to be asked to put in some overtime, at the expense of your social life. Grr.
