Full story: Alamogordo Daily News

If there was abuse a week prior and people knew about it, why didn't they report it then or do something about it? This poor child might still be alive!

New Mexico is a RE-Active State, not PRE-active.

That was my immediate reaction as well!

If you see - or even just suspect - abuse, REPORT IT! Your report can be anonymous. You could save a life, change a life, make a difference.

There seems to be something missing in the article. After the first incident, why was the mother allowed to keep the child or keep it without supervision? There was abuse, no mention of police follow up in the week that followed, no child welfare visits to check on the infant or monitor the mother, and then the call that the child needed help.

Are there facts missing in the report, or do the authorities not follow up on such abuse cases as a matter of policy? Whatever the reason, there is now a deceased child, gone well before their time. Ther shouldn't have been a bail set for the woman. She should be on a no bail/no bond arrangement. Any bets on her claiming diminished mental capacity as a defense for losing it and abusing the baby?

"They're still people that we haven't interviewed yet," Wilder said.
How about "There are" instead of "They're", which I am not even sure technically is a word. It doesn't even make sense in the usage. "They are still people that we haven't interviewed yet??" Really?
Sometimes I am amazed at the lack of professionalism, which includes spelling and grammar. I am not a spelling or grammar whiz, which is why I am not a journalist! Guess I was just expecting a little more.

A child died and you are worried about grammar. I can see what is important to you.

The "Professional" writer that put the article together should be able to write like a professional - but what can you expect in the complete education failure that is New Mexico.

Why does CYFD keep giving these kids back? I think they have some responsibility in this too.

Possibly because they are one of the government's social programs that we underfund, so that case-workers are overwhelmed by their caseloads.

Kira is a friend of mine, but when i heard about this more than a week ago and the different stories i heard I was convinced she killed the baby. I heard several stories from people real close to her, none of which made any sense. I hate to see friends end up in trouble but when you do something wrong, you have to pay the price. I hope she gets what she deserves and I have been saying that since I heard the baby went to the hospital. I feel bad for her daughter cuz she is such a good and sweet little girl.

It's because social workers in New Mexico don't care two bits about the kids there!
Trust me- I grew up there and nobody did anything to help me.

Markus Andras, do not ever drive around Albuquerque. You will have a meltdown with all the public misspellings you see. The first I noticed was when I moved here about 4 years ago. A sign on a drive through said, "If you have any coupons please advice us"... Then the construction signs that read, "Slow down my mommy and daddy works here"... Now this was one of those orange signs that usually read something like slow down men working ahead. I literally see errors on a daily basis, on signs that are read by the public. I usually call the business and explain to them the grammatical error, but so far most do not understand. I am not some stickler for bad grammar, just when the public sees it, please for gods sake, use spell check...

Bless this child and protect the living, but what about the busy-bodies that get into everyone's business? There is a great deal of difference between discipline and abuse. You can't even scold your child in public without a handful of people either taking your pic or calling 911! A slap on the rump is an attention getter, not pounding the child senseless. I grew up just fine with the discipline I received as a child. I whined and screamed in public and was promply taken out, swatted on the bottom and taken back in to mind my manners. Which I did. I wasn't abused and I love my parents deeply. My son is disciplined when he acts out as he sees being done by his friends and on television. He is a straight A student and a great kid.
This woman sounds like an abuser. Her family and friends should have done something, but hindsight is always 20/20. She will pay for her abuse and her daughter will be much happier for it.

This was a 2 month old infant, correct? Injuries to the head, ect? This girl needs to die the same way her baby died with the same lack of mercy. When mothers can kill their own babies, our country needs to crack down on law. Implement the death penalty and make it public. Better yet, make it pay per view so little kids can't see it. Bring back the chain gangs and monetary restitution must be mandatory. Our country is the only one in the world this dangerous.

Daily Horoscope for December 24

Capricorn

Take things slowly and all will be well. However, you must resist a tendency to be perfectionist over things that don't really matter, otherwise you'll never finish the chores. If you're busy with Christmas preparations, you'll have to control a nagging feeling that you've got to compete with the way other people have done things in the past.
