Full story: Santa Cruz Sentinel

What a joke. This has nothing to do with the union's environmental concerns. Its all about money and exclusive work for the union. They want to keep other non-union workers from earning a living for their families, period.

This hotel and all the others plus the restaurants are perfect part time jobs for students at the universities and community colleges. They need the work to subsidize their educations, just as I and tens of millions of other Californians did for decades before illegal immigrants took them over. We don't need slave labor in this state and Mexico and Central American should not have a safety valve that relieves their responsibility for their own citizens. Entry level jobs are essential for a society. Turning such jobs into anything else is unsustainable and inflationary. E-Verify everyone!!!!

No surprise in chairman Daniel Dodge expressing reluctance to approve the project, since his day job is political director for the Monterey Bay Central Labor Council - the local "union of unions." There will probably be additional resistance from the Watsonville city council, since its majority of Rivas, Alejo, Petersen and Bersamin are all public employees enjoying strong political and financial support from local unions.

You mean the Hotel Management Company isn't going to provide free health insurance to the unskilled illegal immigrants they will be employing to fill the low wage unskilled hotel services positions typically filled by illegal immigrants? Damn! All they have to do to afford providing health insurance to the illegal immigrants is find a couple of unused Sociuali Security Numbvers prtobably from deceased seniors and then to pay minimum wage and the offsetting compensation would then include the health insurance premiums paid by the employer. Then the room rates would need to reflect the true labor costs and the higher rates would lead to high unoccupancy rates and probable financial failure or taxpayer subsidizes! Hum?

Take a look at the politics, union power struggles and acusations involving the unions Unite HERE, Unite, and the SEIU! Lot's of very big money, political infighting and a rather large bank owned by Unite! All under the oversight of Democrat politicians involving the Canada, the U.S.(NY) and the local union power players yocals here in Central Califiornia!

I hope the builder/developer/Holiday Inn takes note of this article and files it for future court action against the city and the union.

A city can't over turn a project based on threats from union thugs over the future hiring decisions of a private business. A private business can hire whomever it wants within the purview of the law--and no business is compelled to hire union labor. Closed shops are illegal in the US. Also, the state can't compel a private business to hire union thugs and create a closed shop in exchange for permit and zoning approvals. That is called coercion and it is illegal.

Give me a break! Unite Here should stop fighting development under the false pretence of "environmental" and start focusing on what they do best. Oh, we do not know what it is that they do best besides protect and enable illigals to take jobs away from Amnerican citizens. Mark Weller, go back to MONTEREY.

What a joke. This explains why California is such a mess. Special interest groups (yes, union dues go mostly to Democratic politicians) add needless cost to projects such as this. Approve the hotel now and cut the crap.
