I'm glad there is an article on something good that is happening in Wilmington. That as a community we are able to build a good and healthy foundation for our children. Very impressed.

As a member of the Wilmington YMCA I am very happy with the progress that we have made. It really is a family type of program. We are still in need of improvement and hopefully with this type of positive exposure more will be done to improve our YMCA that sits next to the port that brings in so much money for Los Angeles County yet Wilmington seems to be forgotten when it comes to improving programs in our community. Alot of the money raised is done by staff and members of the YMCA for our gym. YMCA is truly family orientated but we truly need a larger facility the participation is so large that alot of times you stand around waiting for machines to use. This is a safe place for families to bring there kids so I hope community leaders listen to this and help us improve our Wilmington YMCA.

I strongly agree with Wilmington Mom. They really do need to get more machines - I also notice a lot of under age children in the gym area that are sometimes using the machines. They need to monitor this a little closer and the cleaning of each machine after every use. I live in Wilmington and thought twice about joining but decided that it was important to support my community….I hope I did not make a mistake. I do hope that they make more improvments soon.

This is great. I just hope they don't open a snack shack or try to give away lemonade at their dances. Has anybody checked the paperwork on the instructors for immigration status by the way.

When I first checked it out I noticed the signs were always in spanish. Then one Saturday a while back they closed off the parking lot for a party and low and behold a HUGE Mexican Flag which most Americans find offensive. My friends neighbor goes there and she says the entire program is only in spanish.

Maybe a visit by ICE would be appropriate. I would bet most of those who donated didn't know this was a racist ymca for spanish speakers only. Flying Mexican Flags. Go Figure....

This is a great accomplishment for the Wilmington community. Programs like the ones offered by the Y are what our communities needs to reach out to our youth. With such outlets, our community will gain the respect and recognition that it deserves. I challenge the rest of our community to make an effort and become involved in changing our community to become a great town for future generations to live in.
